Job Description - Coach: Track & Field

Description

 The City of Edgewater is seeking a part-time Youth Track and Field Coach to supervise and instruct organized practices and events for the City’s youth track and field program. This program is part of Edgewater’s independent youth recreation offerings and is designed for children ages 6–12. Practices will be held near the Edgewater Recreation Center, likely at a nearby park or outdoor facility. The Youth Track and Field Coach will help young athletes develop fundamental skills in running, jumping, and throwing events while creating a fun, inclusive, and encouraging environment. This position requires the ability to work independently and positively engage with children and their families. The Coach will work approximately 10 hours per week, depending on enrollment and the number of sessions. Candidates with flexible schedules are preferred, as practice and event times may vary to meet program needs. Some weekend availability is required for scheduled events. 

Requirements

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead and supervise all practices and scheduled track and field events.
  • Create age-appropriate practice plans that focus on fundamental running, jumping, and throwing skills.
  • Set up and take down any necessary equipment at each practice.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for youth participants.
  • Communicate regularly with the Programs Coordinator and Program Specialist.
  • Teach basic track and field rules and event etiquette to participants and parents.
  • Follow all City of Edgewater policies and emergency procedures, including basic First Aid and CPR protocols.
  • Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Programs Coordinator.
     

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Submit and pass a pre-employment background check with the City of Edgewater.
  • Possess or be able to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
     

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Prior experience coaching or participating in track and field, preferred.
  • Ability to engage and motivate young athletes (ages 6–12).
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and responsibly.
  • Spanish-speaking candidates a plus.
