Job Description - Coalition Organizer

Organization Description: 


The Northern Arizona Hunger Action Partnership (NAHAP) is a cross-sector coalition of community members working to address food insecurity, inspire action, and enhance community resilience across northern Arizona through collective partnership. Created in 2024 as a response to Flagstaff Family Food Center’s inaugural Northern Arizona Anti-Hunger Summit, this group brings together passionate, knowledgeable community leaders to uplift the stories & respond to the unique needs of communities in northern Arizona.


Currently, Flagstaff Family Food Center (FFFC) is the operating & fiscal sponsor of the Coalition. As such, the Part-Time Organizer will be an employee of FFFC. 


Position Description: 


The Coalition Organizer will support the growth and coordination of NAHAP by leading rural outreach and relationship-building, consolidating and sharing organizational resources, and helping design and analyze annual surveys to assess community needs. 


The Organizer will represent NAHAP in relevant trainings, seminars, and webinars. This position will lay the groundwork for fundraising by connecting funders with on-the-ground community insights, along with researching grant opportunities as they align with the values of NAHAP. 


Additional responsibilities include attending and supporting steering committee meetings, assisting with event coordination, and strengthening the organization’s public presence through newsletters, social media, brand development, and the launch of a website.



Duties & Responsibilities


As a new position, duties & responsibilities will be reviewed at 3 and 6 months for adjustment as needed.


Rural Outreach (30%)



  • Build and deepen relationships with rural communities and community stakeholders

  • Strengthen partnerships with allied organizations and networks

  • Represent NAHAP in community spaces and collaborative efforts


Community Engagement (30%)



  • Participate in relevant trainings, seminars, and webinars on behalf of NAHAP

  • Coordinate and support newsletters, social media, and brand presence at a defined cadence

  • Support the launch of the organization’s website and assist with basic updates as needed

  • Maintain a consistent and effective public-facing presence for NAHAP


Organizational Support (20%)



  • Attend and support steering committee meetings

  • Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of NAHAP events

  • Support logistical needs related to meetings, trainings, and public activities

  • Engage in NAHAP’s capacity-building 


Research, Assessment, & Resource Development (15%)



  • Help design, implement, and analyze annual surveys to assess community needs and organizational impact

  • Consolidate, organize, and share resources for internal and external use

  • Research other coalition groups on strategies for engagement, participation, facilitation, or other relevant topics


Funding (5%)



  • Connect with current funders 

  • Support fundraising efforts aligned with NAHAP’s purpose 

  • Research possible funding avenues 



Qualifications


Required Skills



  • Highly organized with robust administrative skills 

  • Strong communication skills, including clear writing and comfort speaking with a range of audiences

  • Experience supporting outreach, relationship-building, and partnership development

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic, collaborative environment

  • Familiarity with research practices and demonstrated ability to gather, organize and synthesize information

  • Comfortability with administrative coordination such as scheduling, follow-up, and documentation

  • Interest in or experience with community engagement, capacity-building, facilitation, or mobilizing partners

  • Familiarity with policy, advocacy, or systems-level issues (economic, land, food, transportation, etc.), or interest in learning

  • Comfortability representing an organization publicly and participating in community spaces. Exposure to grant support or fundraising efforts is a plus, but not required

  • Commitment to equity and trauma-informed practices, or willingness to learn and apply them


Preferred Skills



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience

  • Existing relationships, networks, or demonstrated leadership within rural Arizona communities

  • Experience working in coalitions, partnerships, or collaborative, multi-stakeholder efforts

  • Strong relational instincts and ability to support, uplift, and complement existing leaders and ongoing initiatives

  • Interest in local and regional food systems work

  • Background and passion for community organizing, grassroots engagement, or movement-building work
