WORK TYPE:   Onsite   

LOCATION DETAILS 2525 Midpoint Drive, Edwardsville, KS 66111

WORK HOURS Monday – Friday, 2pm – 10:00pm 

Full Time Team members work 8-hour shifts for 40 hours per week. Shift times may vary, and extra hours may be added to your schedule to ensure we fulfill our commitments to customers.

This is a Seasonal position until mid-June with potential to convert to a full-time regular position based on attendance, productivity and availability of positions.

Peak Season (January - June) Requirements

  • Mandatory overtime may include some Saturdays and Sundays.

Varsity Spirit, A Varsity Achievement Brand, is looking to hire a Seasonal Collator Operator.  As a member of the Yearbook Production Team, you will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment printing high school and college yearbooks to help our customers celebrate some of their greatest achievements. While you’ll lean heavily on your technical abilities, your greatest asset will be your drive and commitment to quality and safety. We live and work in a team environment and rely heavily on each other to assist across a variety of functions and on various machines.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain good working relationship with lead person and fellow workers
  • Communicate with all employees including other shifts
  • Maintain clean and organized work environment
  • Assists in other areas as work backlogs dictate
  • Practice policies regarding safety and personnel/benefit issues
  • Assist in meeting work quota
  • Additional duties and tasks may be assigned to fulfill assignments or complete work in the Cover Plant/Digital Bindery

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. You will be trained on a variety of bindery equipment until you feel comfortable.

Folder Operator

  • Operate and folding equipment.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance on the folding machine during shift.
  • Check for quality.

Cutting – 3 Knife

  • Operates and maintains cutting table during a shift
  • Completes scheduled maintenance on cutting table during shift
  • Loads/unloads material from cutting table and skids
  • Quality checks every job that comes off cutting table
  • Read and understand work orders and know where to deliver to the next department
  • Scans jobs through in YBS

Sewer Operator

  • Perform required setting up functions for the Kristec sewer as dictated by the operator's manual
  • Enter job specific data into digital sewing system
  • Adjust digital data as required
  • Set sewer bed per book size
  • Adjust holding knives per book size
  • Ensure all stitches are made, signatures are sewn, and signatures are square/edges even
  • Check for correct number of signatures
  • Ensure signature sequence is correct
  • Monitor all required aspects of the equipment during operation
  • Complete preventative maintenance and keep equipment clean
  • Report and mechanical problems to lead/supervisor

Cover Box

  • Box covers. Keep separated by plant and school.
  • Maintain needed supplies.
  • Print labels for jobs and place them on appropriate boxes.
  • Maintain proper production rate
  • Keep the area clean and safe.
  • Keep skids available to stack boxed covers. Move skids with hand jacks when full and use hand jacks to move more covers into area.
  • Pull out routing cards when work is completed in your area. When cards are missing check at cloth cutting then your supervisor.
  • Responsible for additional duties as required. Assist in other areas of Cover Plant as work load dictates.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

  • 1 year or more experience in a high production manufacturing environment which focuses on safety, quality control, and organization
  • High mechanical aptitude
  • Multi-tasking skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Previous success maintaining a strong attendance and on time record
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as tracking sheets, order confirmation sheets and work orders in English
  • Experience folding large, printed signatures with MBO or Heidelberg folding machines a plus!
  • Experience operating a Kristec sewing machine a plus!
