College/Career Counselor - Part Time (2025-2026)

The College/Career Counselor supports and advances the mission of FCS by assisting students and their families as they plan for their next steps after high school, guiding them through the college application process, providing resources to help students learn more about opportunities, and assisting the Guidance Department in numerous ways; reports to the Director of Guidance. The College/Career Counselor should have the following qualifications:

1. Committed Christian with a close personal walk with the Lord, maintained through personal routines (such as prayer and reading the Bible) and in the school setting (through regular participation in Prayer and Share devotional times and other spiritual development)
2. Possesses Christian character qualities to serve as a role model for young people and readiness to share faith in Christ with students as part of our school’s mission
3. Regular in attendance at an evangelical Protestant church
4. Commitment to a biblical lifestyle, not promoting or engaging in premarital, extramarital, transgender, or homosexual behavior
5. If married, a solid commitment based on Mark 10:9 and positive marital relationship
6. Strong commitment to Christian education
7. Master's degree in guidance and counseling
8. Experience in college and career counseling preferred 
9. Committed to keeping ACSI or state certification current according to FCS guidelines
10. Understanding of the special needs of adolescents
11. Ability to communicate sensitively with students, staff, and parents; commitment to confidentiality
12. Teachable, servant spirit

General Responsibilities:

1. Assists with organization of College Fair
2. Assists students and families with college choices and the college application process
3. Meets with students individually and in small groups to discuss college searches, visits, and selection
4. Prepares and disseminate materials regarding college and career success programs   
5. Hosts an information meeting for 11th-12th graders
6. Hosts financial plan meeting for 6th-12th grade parents
7. Works with alumni to have college ambassador visits
8. Oversees seniors to ensure they have all classes for graduation/transcripts
9. Researches scholarship opportunities for seniors
10. Developing college relationships through attendance at regional and national conferences and college visits 
11. Assists with college admission representatives visits to FCS 
12. Assists with the maintenance and updating of college application information
13. Remains current on all college admission trends including merit and need-based aid, and standardized testing 
14. Assists students looking outside of college with career planning and resources
15. Assists with Career Fair
16. Assists with coordination of AP testing and AP prep classes
17. Assists with coordination of PSAT testing and SAT/ACT
18. Plans and coordinates ASVAB testing
19. Assists students going into the workforce 
20. Assists Guidance Department with other projects
