Job Description - Columbia EMS Wildland Paramedics





Replies within 24 hours



Columbia EMS is seeking dedicated Wildland Paramedics to join our team of medical professionals. In this role, you will be providing medical care in high-risk environments during wildland fire incidents, either independently or as part of an ambulance crew. The wildfire season typically runs from late May through October.



 This is a seasonal, on-call position, with most assignments lasting up to 14 days. Travel is required.

Compensation: (Wildland deployments only)


EMPF: $38.10 - $44.93/hour


Shifts generally consist of 16 hours, during either day or night.


 



Key Responsibilities:


 Assume full responsibility for the EMS scene in the absence of senior staff, providing leadership and supervision to team members.


Deliver direct patient care and manage transport to appropriate medical facilities.


Collaborate effectively with colleagues to adapt to dynamic, high-pressure environments, fostering a professional and cooperative team culture.


Document observations and medical care, both verbally and electronically, ensuring accurate records for patient care and diagnostics.


Uphold strict patient confidentiality and adhere to company policies and procedures.


Work extended hours while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.


Operate and maintain emergency medical apparatus.


Respond swiftly and efficiently in emergency situations.


Lift and carry up to 100 lbs.



Qualifications:


 High school diploma or GED.


Previous experience as an EMT-Paramedic is preferred but not required.


Ability to interpret and apply local ALS protocols, as well as company policies in emergency situations.



Required Certifications and Licenses:


 Washington State or National Registry Paramedic Certification in good standing with the Medical Program Director.


AHA Healthcare Provider CPR.


ICS 100, 200, 700.


Firefighter Training S-130.


Introduction to Wildland Fire S-190.


Annual Fireline Safety Refresher RT-130.


Valid driver’s license.



Preferred (but not required) Certifications:


 Fire certifications can be obtained post-hire.


ACLS, PALS, PHTLS


Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service L-180.


Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior S-290.


Basic Air Operations S-270.


Helicopter Crewmember S-271.



Physical Requirements: This position requires physical stamina, including walking, sitting, standing, reaching, bending, and lifting. Frequent use of manual dexterity, keyboard, and hand/eye coordination is essential. All candidates must complete the Work Capacity Fitness Test (WCFT), which includes a 3-mile walk with a 45-pound pack, to be completed in under 45 minutes.
