POSITION TITLE: Community Nutrition Educator
RESPONSIBLE TO: Community Health & Engagement Lead
DURATION: This is a 6-month position, with the potential for extension or transition into a regular, ongoing role
HOURS: 8 hours per week. Evaluation every 2 – 4 weeks for increased hours.
CLASS: non-exempt
COMPENSATION: $20 – 23.75, Depending on experience [+$1 bilingual differential for Spanish fluency]
BENEFITS: Eligible for FFLC-sponsored paid time off benefits such as holidays, vacation, and sick.
ABOUT COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAMS AT FFLC: FOOD For Lane County (FFLC) serves 85,000+ people across Lane County each year. About 1 in 8 adults and 1 in 5 children in Lane County are unable to meet their food needs from day to day. At FFLC, we know that food is medicine, which is why our mission is to reduce food insecurity by engaging the community to create access to food. Those we serve include families, veterans, unhoused, marginalized, disabled, seniors, and anyone with low/no income. FFLC’s Community Health Programs provide members of our community with services that support their nutrition, health, and wellbeing. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are a core component of these programs.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Community Nutrition Educator is a part-time hybrid position that will play a vital role in supporting the health and nutrition goals of low-income families and individuals in Lane County. By delivering nutrition education to individuals and groups, the Community Nutrition Educator will help participants learn to prepare nutritious meals, maximize food resources, and access local food assistance programs.
The majority of duties may be performed remotely, with occasional in-person meetings in Eugene, OR, and optional travel within Lane County. The Community Nutrition Educator will report to the Community Health and Engagement Lead.
This position offers a flexible schedule with scalable hours and workload based on community needs. We anticipate the role will grow in tandem with our new community health programming. Every 2 – 4 weeks, the Community Health & Engagement Lead will assess community demand and funding availability to determine whether the position can sustainably be scaled up in hours.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for nutrition education, experience in trauma-informed training or coaching, and the flexibility to tailor educational content to individual needs. Community Health Worker certification (or the ability to obtain it) is preferred.
