Job Description - Contract Position: Substitute Program Instructor (Temporary Role)
Contract Dates: Estimated Start – May 19, 2025 | Estimated End – September 19, 2025 Potential for part-time continuation based on agency need and availability.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Arc of the Capital Area is seeking a Contract Substitute Program Instructor to support our Art and Education Program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This is a temporary, contracted position designed to provide flexible instructional support, primarily at our Austin campus, with the additional support of subbing at our Leander or Hutto campuses based on staffing needs.
This position requires a minimum availability of 3 weekdays per week, between the hours of 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM, and is ideal for someone passionate about creative education, community building, and supporting individuals with disabilities through structured and meaningful programming.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead engaging, creative, and inclusive lessons tailored to individuals with IDD
Foster a supportive environment that promotes independence, dignity, and joy
Assist the Education Manager and Site Coordinator in maintaining classroom, studio, and program flow
Maintain accurate attendance and case notes aligned with HIPAA and funding requirements
Support classroom behavior management and participant engagement
Cultivate community and provider relationships that support program growth
Contribute to ongoing program events, fundraising efforts, and participant showcases

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum 1 year of experience in lesson planning or group instruction
Comfort working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
Ability to work in-person across multiple campus locations
Reliable transportation, valid ID or driver’s license, and proof of car insurance
Willingness to undergo a background check
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Background in art instruction or creative education
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic database entry
Strong group leadership and behavior management skills
Ability to engage with community members and build strong relationships
Compensation: $18.75 – $20.50/hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Part-time; weekday shifts between 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM; minimum 3 days/week up to 5 days/week.
Work Locations: Austin, Leander, and Hutto campuses (reliable commute required)
