Job Description - Contract/Consulting Work Registration - Part Time Controller - On Site
The Veterans Launch mission is to connect military service with actual contract consulting work opportunities. From short term temporary positions to longer term project based opportunities, 100% of the work through Veterans Launch is for U.S. military veterans.
This specific assignment will be a part time, 24 hour a week, open ended opportunity with one of our clients who has previously hired US Veterans through Veterans Launch.
The Controller is responsible for the financial management, accounting operations, and fiscal integrity of the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association. This role performs all accounting functions, ensures compliance with nonprofit and governmental regulations, and supports strategic decision-making through accurate financial reporting and analysis.
In addition to finance leadership, the Controller provides oversight of core Human Resources administrative functions, ensuring compliance with employment laws and supporting effective personnel management.
Perform all accounting functions including bringing in QBO, manage accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger and cash management.
Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for CEO and Board of Directors.
Manage annual budgeting process in collaboration with each department.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and advising CEO.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Coordinate and manage annual independent audit and IRS Form 990 preparation.
Oversee restricted fund tracking.
Maintain internal controls and safeguard organizational assets.
Manage cash flow forecasting.
Work directly with the CEO on projects and budgets.
Provide operational support to CEO.
Provide financial analysis to support educational programs, vessel operations, and special events.
Provide financial reports to Board committees as needed.
Human Resources Administration
Process payroll within Insperity and manage benefits administration.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
Maintain personnel records and HR documentation.
Support recruitment processes, onboarding, and off-boarding procedures.
Assist CEO with compensation planning.
Update and maintain employee handbook policies in coordination with
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or museum settings.
Experience with grant accounting and restricted funds management.
Working knowledge of HR compliance and payroll systems.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks & Microsoft).
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly.
Discretion in handling confidential financial and personnel information.
Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
Must have prior U.S. military service.
