POSITION DESCRIPTION

Part Time

TITLE: Coordinator of Activities 

FLSA: Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY

The basic function of the Coordinator of Activities is to assess, plan and implement programs for the Sisters of St. Francis in St. Clare Hall (SCH) and Motherhouse. Opportunities for education, activities and outings designed to assist individuals in varying levels of functioning to fulfill their intellectual, social and leisure needs will be provided. This person ministers with the Pastoral Care Team, Coordinating Team, Wellness Coordinator and Nursing Staff. The coordinator contributes to the monthly activity calendars. The Coordinator of Activities gives witness to the Franciscan values of reconciliation, peace and justice, responsible stewardship and respect for the individual. This individual is responsible to the Motherhouse Minister.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assess the needs of the individual Sisters through:

  1. interviews      with Sisters

consultation with Nursing Staff, Pastoral Care Team, Coordinating Team and Wellness Coordinator

  1. evaluation      sheets
  2. observation

2. Designs, implements and/or coordinates opportunities of educational, social, and

leisure activities for the Sisters in St. Clare Hall and Motherhouse

  1. educational      activities
  2. activities      to stimulate the spirits of the Sisters
  3. activities      to increase cognitive functioning
  4. coordinate      activities on and off campus
  5. participation      in community and world issues
  6. incorporate      basic technology as needed by individual sisters

3. Coordinates volunteers to assist with games, special parties or celebrations

4. Assists in preparing and coordinating the monthly events calendars

5. Periodically re-evaluate the Activity programs, reassessing needs/wants of individuals and 

groups with appropriate personnel

 

6. Sets up an annual budget


Requirements

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

· education and experience in geriatrics activities, National Certification Council for 

Activity Professionals (NCCAP) preferred but not required

· experience in ministering with older adults with varying levels of cognition

· strong organizational skills

· effective communication skills

· approachability

· good social/people skills

· ability to comfortably relate with large and small groups, as well as one on one

· coordinating skills

· ability to take initiative

· creativity

· flexibility

· experience working effectively on a team

· assessment skills

· computer skills

· ability to set a budget and operate within the budget

· a valid driver’s license

· ability to safely lift 50 pounds 

· on-going education

WORKING CONDITIONS 24 HOURS/WEEK

  • normally two days in SCH      and one day in Motherhouse 
  • usually weekday, daytime      hours
  • occasional evenings and      weekends

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Coordinator of Activities for SCH and Motherhouse is responsible to Motherhouse Minister.
