SUMMARY

The Coordinator of Parish Religious Education at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Melbourne Beach, FL, is responsible for the direction of Elementary grade religious education, grades 1-8, including sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and assistance with the bi-annual Sacrament of Confirmation. The Coordinator shall be responsible to the Pastor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be requested/assigned by the Pastor in consultation with the Coordinator.

  • Coordinates, supervises, and acts as a resource person for the Elementary grade (1-8) religious education program within the parish.
  • Assists a catechetical team with the parish’s bi-annual preparation for/celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Recruits catechists, facilitating their Diocesan certification and providing necessary in-service training for them.
  • Designs curriculum and selects texts and other materials from those approved by the Diocesan Secretariat for Laity, Family Life.
  • Administers and assists in the preparation of a budget.
  • Presents an annual evaluation of the program to the Pastor.
  • Ensures that all Diocesan policies that affect parish religious education pertinent to the program are implemented and adhered to.

QUALIFICATIONS

CATHOLIC FAITH

Practice of the Catholic faith is required. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the diocese.

EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE 

The Coordinator of Religious Education is expected to have capabilities in Theology, Program Coordination, Coordination of Catechist Development, Communication and Relationships and Administration.

Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies or related field or equivalent experience and education as well as spiritual leadership skills. Must have or be in process of obtaining Master Catechist.

ORGANIZATIONAL/ INTERPERSONAL SKILLS 

A high level of organizational and interpersonal skill is required. Attention to detail and working well with others is also required. 

LANGUAGE/ COMMUNICATION SKILLS 

Ability to read and analyze routine correspondence and compose the appropriate response. Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries from internal sources. Ability to effectively present reports and information.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to apply appropriate operations in establishing and maintaining budgets. 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form.
