Job Title: CRSS Instructor

Department: Department of Education - New Hope School of Counseling

Reports to: Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) Supervisor

Job Type: Part-Time, Non-exempt, hourly

Job Location: 3720 N. Kedzie 

Salary Range: $25-$30 per hour, 12-15 hours per week

Position Description – What the Role Entails:

The CRSS Program Instructor is responsible for planning, teaching, and coordinating instructional materials for students in the CRSS/CPRS Certification and Recovery Support Specialist Studies Program. This role involves delivering the CRSS/CPRS curriculum, conducting workshops and study sessions, and providing weekly office hours for student support. This position will report directly to the CRSS Supervisor, as well as collaborating with the Professional Development Manager and Director of Education.

Areas of Accountability - What you will be doing:

  • Instructs CRSS students in the CRSS/CPRS Certification and Recovery Support Specialist Studies Program.
  • Employ diverse teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, activities, and demonstrations.
  • Foster a positive learning environment and motivate students through effective communication and feedback.
  • Utilize instruction technology and electronic resources to develop student-centered learning opportunities. (i.e. PowerPoints, Canva, and Canvas LMS)
  • Develop and maintain course outlines or syllabi that meet ICB and IBHE standards.
  • Update curriculum as needed
  • Apply research-based teaching strategies that engage students with varying abilities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Plan lessons and assignments to align with curriculum learning objectives.
  • Provides weekly discussion questions
  • Works with students to make up coursework due to an absence
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum and subject matter.
  • Holds weekly office hours. 
  • Designs or uses current assessments to monitor student learning outcomes
  • Keep organized records of student progress and training requirements.  
  • Grade assignments, tests, and other student work to assess progress.
  • Works with the Director of Education to ensure that the policies and procedures of the programs are being adhered to
  • Collaborates with the Professional Development/Community Education Team, NHSC Team & other programs across Rincon Family Services
  • Other duties as assigned.

Rincon’s Work Environment – What to expect:

The Part Time CRSS Instructor must be able to successfully perform essential functions of this job including travel for classes and networking with students; extensive continuous computer screen time and occasional carrying of objects up to 20lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Employees are responsible for informing supervisor of any invisible disability or medical restriction that limit physical capability.

Schedule: This is a part time role of 12-15 hours per week. Evening availability is required. This is a hybrid role.

  • Competence in Office 365 suite, especially Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Canvas, and Zoom.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, instructors, and organization leadership.
  • Desire to learn new skills.
  • Knowledge of community and social service agencies.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork.

Position Qualifications – What is required to Perform the Role:

  • CRSS or CPRS Certified 
  • 2 years working as a CRSS/CPRS in the behavioral health field
  • Must be highly motivated, analytical, self-starter, creative and detail oriented.
  • Must pass pre-employment background checks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse groups of students, staff, and communities.
