Day Shift Sand Blaster

Powder Coating Systems is hiring a Sand Blaster for our facility. This position works Monday through Friday except for our six paid Holidays. Day Shift runs from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM. This is a full-time, forty hour a week position. We offer Paid Time Off (PTO) that is effective ninety days after hire, but accrues from the first day of work. 

This very physical position requires the employee to be in an enclosed booth roughly 90% of the time. The employee will use our sand blasting apparatus to remove the outer surface of the metal (patina) from the parts to prepare them for coating. Employees in this position, for their safety, will wear long sleeves regardless of the weather to protect themselves from the steel shot and other residue. All employees in our facility are required to wear steel/composite toe footwear and hearing protection. We also require new hire sand blasters to complete an OSHA survey to gain approval to use our breathing apparatus. This may result in a possible medical follow-up paid for by the company. 

The Sand Blaster's responsibilities include: 

-reading an Excel Spreadsheet to determine job order. 

-using a tablet and software to count and track parts and to note specific instructions regarding the parts they are working on. 

-transporting the job from our yard or bay to their booth using a forklift. (We certify forklift operators after their first week if they possess previous experience. We train those without experience so they can use the forklift for us.) 

-counting in all jobs to ensure we have everything prior to starting and communicating discrepancies to leadership. 

-masking threaded holes and studs to ensure no damage during the sandblasting process. 

-using the apparatus to blast the parts, taking care not to damage them in the process. 

-inspecting the parts to ensure they are blasted prior to blowing them off and relocating them outside the booth. 

-completing their portion of the work order and blast log when finished. 

-performing prechecks on the booth prior to starting. 

-tagging blasted jobs. 

During slow times and when needed, the blaster will be helping our floor team with hanging, prepping, inspecting and packing jobs. There is always something to do and the expectation is that our employees are productive.

-Reliable legal transportation to the worksite. (We require our employees to have exemplary attendance and require them to be on time for their shifts daily. Although there is a Pierce Transit stop near our shop, there are no runs that happen around our start time.)

-Must possess a current, legal driver's license. (This is for the sake of our forklift operations.) 

-Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. repeatedly. (We do encourage two-person lifting and using our indoor crane and forklifts when applicable.) 

-Must possess originals of the documentation to work in the United States. (We complete an I-9 within two days of starting.) 

The following are beneficial: 

-Previous experience in a powder coating or paint shop. 

-Previous forklift experience. 

-Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools or air tools. 

-Basic shop experience. 

-Previous experience with customer service.
