LaAmistad is a passionate, highly effective, and impactful organization that prepares Latino students and families for success through academic and life enrichment programs. LaAmistad was established in 2001 in the Atlanta area as a safe place for neighborhood children to develop and improve their academic and character skills. Over the past 2 decades, it has grown into a holistic program that includes after-school tutoring, parent education, English classes, adult education workshops, scholarships, and summer enrichment activities. 


 


About the Role:


The Development Associate will be responsible for managing the grants process for LaAmistad, including research, cultivation, writing, submission, internal filing and documentation, communication, and tracking. Furthermore, they will support the development department in leading the planning and implementation of events. They will work within the guidelines, policies, and mission of the organization and will be accountable and responsible for other development projects as assigned. The position will be based in the organization’s administrative offices in the Buckhead area of Atlanta and will report directly to the Development Director. 


 


Job Responsibilities:


Each role with LaAmistad is part of a strong team. To support the team, you will likely be required to walk quickly across varying distances on our campuses, lift and carry supplies and other materials, push heavy rolling carts, and climb multiple flights of stairs as well as have adequate hearing and vision to successfully navigate the requirements of the position. 


 


Grants Research, Writing, and Management


 



  • Conduct internal and external research to identify funding opportunities with foundations, governmental agencies, corporate, and community-based funding organizations

  • Write grant proposals, letters of interest/inquiry, concept papers, and related materials for proposal submissions that align with LaAmistad mission and programming

  • Prepare and submit applications and reports per funder requirements and deadlines

  • Monitor application and reporting timelines and communicate them to ensure we are meeting funder deadlines and requirements

  • Track pre-award, awarded, and closed grants; input all actions, opportunities, etc into Raiser’s Edge

  • Collaborate with colleagues to collect data, photos, and anecdotes for use in grant reports

  • Lead donor cultivation meetings or site-visits, and maintain consistent and timely communication with funders and grantmaking agencies


    


Fundraising, Special Events, and Donor Development


 



  • Support planning and implementation of special events including Annual Fiesta LaAmistad, Circle of Friends gatherings, Friendsgiving, end-of-year holiday parties, Volunteer Appreciation Celebration, Fall Bash, and board-hosted events

  • Support the development of corporate sponsorships or other donor cultivation for LaAmistad events

  • Lead silent auction, including acquiring donations and managing GiveSmart platform

  • Conduct prospect research, and analyze donor trends and data to identify prospects whether individuals, corporations, foundations or other funding

  • Exercise discretion in handling confidential donor information

  • Develop and cultivate relationships with donors

  • Provide administrative support for the Development Department

  • And other duties as needed


 


 Database Management - Raiser's Edge and/or Salesforce


 



  • Responsible for database integrity and management related to grants management, donor development and events: data entry, event attendance, updating constituent records, recording actions and maintaining updated opportunities

  • Assist in prospect research and ensure information is added to the constituent file(s) for existing and prospective donors, foundations, and grant related entities


 


Preferred Skills & Qualifications



  • 2+ years in grants management and/or grant writing

  • Strong communication skills, particularly writing and public speaking

  • Confidence in working independently and taking the initiative to produce quality and efficient work

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple demands, and maintain deadlines

  • Ability and passion for building relationships 

  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred

  • Experience in core functions highly valued and prioritized; however non-profit focused, philanthropic, communications, or English degree preferred

  • Raiser's Edge experience a plus

  • Skill in exercising discretion, tact, and independent judgment about management tasks

  • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, including children, families, and people of various cultures

  • Familiarity with the metro Atlanta philanthropic community and funding sources for non-profits

  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods and to occasionally carry and lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds
