You Can Vote (YCV) is a North Carolina 501(c)3 nonpartisan nonprofit. YCV envisions a fully representative democracy that strives for equality and justice for all North Carolinians. Our team educates and mobilizes North Carolinians to take civic action, know their rights, and successfully cast a ballot in each election.
You Can Vote seeks a dynamic, creative, experienced and organized individual to serve as Development Director to help YCV achieve its short- and long-term fundraising goals.
The Development Director is a non-exempt, part-time position with an average of 20-25 hours per week and reports to and works closely with the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
Design and manage a multi-faceted development strategy aligned with YCV’s mission, priorities, and growth goals.
Strengthen YCV’s approach to resource stewardship and long-term sustainability.
Assist the Executive Director to identify, engage, and convert prospects into long-term supporters and cultivate major donors.
Identify, meet ambitious annual and multi-year fundraising targets; track performance and adjust strategies accordingly.
Lead fundraising efforts across individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and special campaigns.
Serve as the primary liaison for grant writing, reporting, and compliance, in coordination with the leadership team.
Identify corporate social responsibility and/or workplace giving objectives and opportunities that align with YCV’s mission and work with staff to create engagement initiatives.
Plan and execute donor engagement and stewardship events to strengthen affinity and long-term giving.
Ensure timely, high-quality communication and follow-up with donors and funders.
Maintain meticulous donor records and ensure data integrity.
Lead regular analysis of fundraising performance; report on key metrics and recommend adjustments to strategy.
Represent YCV at donor briefings and events to elevate visibility and build partnerships.
Remain 100% nonpartisan while representing YCV.
Other duties as assigned.
The Development Director will be thoroughly committed to YCV’s strategy and mission. In addition to a proven track record of major gift work, all candidates should have demonstrated leadership and relationship management experience.
Skills and Experience:
Excellent project management and organizational skills; detail-oriented and proactive.
Ability to write emotionally and intellectually engaging copy accurately and quickly.
Proven experience and an ability to translate program goals into compelling funding campaigns.
Strong track record of closing gifts and securing revenue.
Deep experience in major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Excellent communication skills, including strong writing, storytelling, and public speaking.
Exceptional relationship-building and influence across diverse audiences.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; data-driven and impact-oriented.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising or donor engagement, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding revenue goals across diverse funding streams.
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing environments.
Proficiency with fundraising CRM systems.
Team player who is passionate about building a nonpartisan campaign for long-term civic involvement.
Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Salary: Non-exempt.
Part-time (20-25 hours per week).
$45.00 - $65.00 per hour based on experience.
