Director of Religious Education (DRE)

📍 Location: Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia
 📅 Start Date: October 1, 2025
 💼 Contract Position | 4 months base with 4 option years (and possible 6-month extension)



About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Religious Education (DRE) to support the Command Religious Program (CRP) at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. The DRE will be responsible for developing, leading, and coordinating Roman Catholic and Protestant religious education programs for service members, their families, and authorized personnel.


This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting spiritual impact within a military chapel community while ensuring excellence in faith formation, sacramental preparation, and discipleship education.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead and administer Roman Catholic and Protestant religious education programs, including:

    • Sunday School classes for children, youth, and adults

    • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

    • Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) programs

    • Vacation Bible School and youth fellowship activities

    • Bible study sessions and small group ministries





  • Recruit, train, and oversee volunteer teachers and assistants.



  • Collaborate with the Command Chaplain, Catholic Priest, and Protestant Chaplain.



  • Conduct teacher meetings, parent meetings, and annual open house events.



  • Maintain accurate student registrations and safeguard personal information.



  • Submit timely program announcements for bulletins and chapel newsletters.



  • Ensure coverage during personal absences (with Command Chaplain approval).




Qualifications:




  • Required:

    • Valid denominational certification OR a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in a religious or academic setting.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Education, or related field (preferred).

    • Familiarity with Roman Catholic history, liturgical calendar, and doctrines, as well as Protestant traditions.

    • Three professional references (dated within the last 5 years).

    • Letter of endorsement from a recognized religious leader or institution.






  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership and organizational skills.

    • Excellent oral and written communication.

    • Ability to work within military protocols and a diverse chapel community.

    • Professional presence, reliability, and collaborative spirit.





Additional Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, fingerprint screening, and obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) and DBIDS credential.

  • Must complete mandatory Navy training (Antiterrorism Awareness, OPSEC, Cybersecurity, etc.).



Compensation & Contract Terms:

  • This is a contract position under a federal service contract.

  • Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

  • Initial period of performance: Oct 1, 2025 – Jan 31, 2026, with four 1-year option periods and possible 6-month extension.
