Dog Handler - Joppa

Job Summary

The Dog Handler is responsible for supervising, controlling, and managing dogs in daycare and boarding settings, ensuring their safety and well-being. The role includes caring for other animals, maintaining cleanliness in the facility, feeding animals, and following safety and behavior management protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·     Discuss service needs with dog owners.

·     Maintain cleanliness in the play area.

·     Clean and sanitize kennels, crates, equipment, and facility areas.

·     Supervise dog play sessions, recognize individual dogs and their behaviors.

·     Use leadership skills to manage dog behavior and group play

·     Ensure safety during dog socialization and exercise.

·     Report incidents to supervisors.

·     Take photos and write activity reports as required

·     Complete required training (e.g., PackPro and Pet First Aid/CPR).

·     Feed and monitor health of dogs.

·     Provide mental and physical stimulation to dogs

·     Perform additional duties as assigned

Essential Functions

·     Operate BFFE software on various devices.

·     Complete housekeeping tasks (dusting, cleaning, mopping, etc.)

·     Multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

·     Provide high-energy, positive interactions and customer service.

·     Collaborate effectively with team members.

·     Understand and follow company policies.

Availability

Must be available on weekends, evenings, and holidays (mandatory). Shifts range between:

5:00 AM – 12:30 PM

1:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Flexibility to work double shifts (7:00 AM – 6:30 PM) when needed. Open to full-time or part-time employment.

Work Environment

Exposure to outdoor weather (6+ hours/day, year-round).

Wet/humid conditions, and occasionally fumes, extreme temperatures, and loud noise. PPE is provided as needed.

Physical/Mental Job Requirements

Stand/walk for long periods, lift 50–60 lbs daily. Safe use of cleaning chemicals.

Strong verbal and written communication. Ability to listen, proofread, and use the telephone. Use of tools (shovel, broom, etc.) and computers.

Skills in multitasking, time management, organization, and attention to detail.

Critical thinking, customer service, and active listening.

Minimum Requirements

·        High School Graduate or GED

·        Genuine care and concern for caring for dogs of all sizes and needs.

·        6 months of professional dog kennel experience is preferred.
