Job Description - Education Assistant

Description

Position Summary:

The Education Assistant supports Educators in delivering educational museum programming grounded in playful learning. Programming from the Education Department serves children and families from all over Snohomish County and beyond. Our programs take place both at the Museum and at schools, libraries, and other sites in the community. This position supports enthusiastic, fun-filled, playful educational experiences for preschool and elementary school-aged children. Education Assistants represent the Museum in a highly positive manner, keeping learning opportunities child-focused.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of innovative and creative Museum programming by co-presenting learning experiences to school and community groups both at Imagine and in schools and other venues.
  • Learn to deliver specified Imagine curriculum offerings under guidance of Imagine educators.
  • Maintain education equipment, curriculum boxes, inventories, and designated Museum spaces.
  • Document specified elements of programs such as attendance, incidents involving participants, or student progress.
  • Work in a team environment with Imagine staff to ensure program success.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the department and make our programs successful by:
  • Adhering to the Museum’s vision, policies and procedures, and educational goals.
  • Maintaining positive relations with community agencies, school faculty and staff, and families visiting the Museum.
  • Completing other job related duties and projects as assigned

Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Interest in and enthusiasm for working with both preschool and elementary audiences
  • Demonstrated initiative, creative problem-solving and good organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Curiosity and love of learning new or unfamiliar topics
  • Ability to use technology and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to foster an environment where positive thinking and attitudes are valued and expected
  • Passion for advancing diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion in education
  • Commitment to Imagine Children’s Museum Core Values. 
  • Must have a reliable car, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record

Education and/or Experience:

  • Successful completion of 2 years of college level coursework in education and/or sufficient experience working in a classroom or an informal learning environment. 
  • Experience working with children ages 2-12 (or any subset)

Work Environment:

  • High level of public contact.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk for long periods of time, use stairs and adapt to floor or table activities.
  • Occasionally lift and or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Speak and hear sufficiently to communicate clearly in person, and in small groups.
  • Mental stamina for problem solving and dealing with stressful situations; prioritizing multiple tasks; interpreting and applying oral/written instructions.
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor elements including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and wind.
  • Occasionally exposed to moderate noise in and around exhibits.

This is a part-time, seasonal position, onsite in Everett. The pay is $18 an hour. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:30am-1pm, with potential for additional hours as needed. Please note that this a seasonal position, beginning on June 17th, and ending on August 21st.
