IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Sr. Manager of Education & Community Engagement

STATUS: Part-time, Non-Exempt

HOURS: 16 hours / week 

PAY RATE: $22.00 - $24.00 / hour 

The Education Programs Coordinator plays a vital role in the planning, coordination, and delivery of arts education and community engagement programs at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA). This position supports and oversees on- and off-site programs serving a wide range of audiences including youth, teens, families, older adults, and intergenerational participants. Formats include visiting school field trips, workshops, gallery programs, community pop-ups, summer camps, life drawing studio sessions, festival activation, and special events.

The Coordinator works collaboratively with the Education & Community Engagement lead and across departments to ensure that programs are engaging, accessible, well-organized, and reflective of BIMA’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

- Coordinate logistics, provide on-site support for and/or teach education programs including:

--  K–12 field trips and school visits

-- Community-based youth and teen programs

-- Family art-making events

-- Programs for older adults and inter-generational audiences

-- Pop-up art activities at festivals, fairs and community events

-- Summer Camps

-- Life Drawing Studio and Drink & Draw sessions

- Assist in the development, scheduling, and promotion of programs in collaboration with Education staff and community partners.

- Support artist-educators and volunteers during program implementation.

- Gather and analyze participant and community feedback to inform continuous improvement.

- Maintain accurate program records, attendance data, and evaluation metrics.

- Assist with the preparation of materials and supplies for hands-on art activities.

- Represent BIMA at off-site programs with professionalism and enthusiasm.

- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment of educational programming with exhibitions, events, and museum priorities.

- Perform administrative tasks that support departmental workflow, including scheduling, communications, and supply tracking.

- Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all participants.

- Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  

Qualifications:

- Experience coordinating or facilitating educational or community-based programs, especially those serving youth and/or intergenerational audiences.

- Demonstrated ability to work with groups of varying sizes, ages, and backgrounds.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members.

- Experience or strong interest in contemporary art and arts education.

- Excellent time management, organization, and office skills (email, data entry, creating spreadsheets, scheduling tools, etc.).

- This position requires their own transportation and must have a current Washington State Driver’s License and proof of insurance.

- Ability to work some evenings and weekends in support of programs and events.

- Comfort working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

- Creative problem-solving skills and a growth mindset.

- Passion for working with children and diverse communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

- Background in arts education, museum studies, community arts, or related fields.

- Familiarity with local or regional arts and education landscapes.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs (e.g., art supplies, program materials).

- Frequent walking, standing, and occasional outdoor work required.

- Some travel within the region for off-site programs and events.
