Assistant Elementary Principal


Reports To


Elementary Principals (MW and T/TH) and ultimately to the Head of School


Status & Schedule


Part-time; on campus Tuesday/Thursday/Friday (Fridays will have some flex and seasonal), 7:30AM-5:00PM (after school hours can flex within the week), Part-time summer hours (starting approx July 7 on campus Tues/Thurs)


Evaluation


Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on professional personnel and this job description.



Overview


The Assistant Elementary Principal is an instructional and operational leader within the elementary division (PK–5). This role supports and advances the academic vision set by the Executive Leadership Team and implemented by the Elementary Principals.


This position goes beyond administrative support and requires educational expertise, leadership judgment, and the ability to step in as acting principal when needed (short- or long-term). The Assistant Elementary Principal helps ensure the overall health, consistency, and excellence of the division through leadership, systems management, and direct support of teachers and programs.


Responsibilities vary throughout the year and are assigned by the Elementary Principals.


Core Responsibilities (Year-Round)


1. Instructional Leadership & Academic Oversight



  • Provide instructional leadership through classroom walkthroughs and formal/informal observations as assigned by the Principal

  • Deliver targeted coaching and feedback to support teacher growth

  • Promote instructional consistency and academic rigor across grade levels, including satellite day alignment

  • Monitor lesson planning quality and support continuous instructional improvement

  • Serve as Elementary Testing Coordinator, overseeing all testing and data tracking (IOWA, DRA, entrance testing, etc.) in coordination with the academic team

  • Train and/or support the Literacy Specialist in DRA administration and communication of results

  • Participate in weekly meetings with Elementary Principals to review academic priorities and progress


2. Leadership Support & School Culture



  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for parent concerns and support communication when issues escalate

  • Assist in supporting student behavior, well-being, and overall school culture

  • Support onboarding and development of new teachers and contribute to a positive staff culture

  • Attend staff devotions and actively support the spiritual life of students and staff

  • Serve as acting principal when needed, including oversight of staff, communication, and daily operations


3. Systems, Operations & Accountability



  • Ensure consistency in grading practices, academic systems, and school policy implementation

  • Coordinate substitute teachers (K–5), including classroom coverage when necessary

  • Support chapel logistics, including technology and AVL needs

  • Assist with implementation of carline procedures and campus safety

  • Support setup and monitoring of instructional platforms, software and accounts (e.g., Dojo, IXL)

  • Support admissions processes for the elementary division as needed


4. Curriculum & Resource Management



  • Manage and inventory curriculum and instructional materials (e.g., science, math, Superkids)

  • Support ordering, organization, and distribution of consumable materials


5. Events, Programs & Community Engagement



  • Assist in planning, coordination, and execution of key elementary events, including, but not limited to:

    • Staff and Parent Orientations

    • Back-to-School Night

    • Summer Glide (including celebration)

    • Grandparents Day

    • Christmas and Easter Programs

    • Field Trips / Colonial Day

    • Field Day

    • Awards Ceremonies




6. Elementary Testing Coordinator 



  • Oversee all of the elementary testing and data tracking (IOWA, DRAs, entrance testing, etc) in collaboration with the elementary academic team

  • Provide increased on-campus support during high-demand seasons, particularly spring entrance testing (including Fridays as needed)


7. Additional Responsibilities



  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Elementary Principals in support of the overall health and effectiveness of the division


Summer Responsibilities



  • Plan and prepare for the upcoming academic year, including:

    • Ordering, organizing, and managing curriculum and materials

    • Participating in professional development

    • Assisting in recruitment and hiring of elementary staff

    • Supporting the planning of teacher and parent orientations and trainings

    • Preparing open house and orientation events

    • Assisting with student/parent and teacher handbook revisions

    • Managing IOWA reports and parent communication

    • Creating and communicating elementary supply lists and parent checklists

    • Other duties as assigned



  • Collaborate with teachers to:

    • Maintain high academic standards

    • Develop curriculum maps, scope and sequence, and objectives

    • Provide input on performance goals and instructional improvement




Required Personal Qualities



  1. The administrator shall:

    1. Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior.

    2. Believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.

    3.  Be in whole-hearted agreement with Covenant Christian Academy’s Statement of Faith (Doctrinal Position) and CCA’s vision/mission. 

    4. Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others. (Luke 6:40) This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards for sexual conduct.

    5. Be a Christian who is, and will remain during the period of employment, an active member of a Christ-centered church, growing in his/her Christian relationship with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the Christian faith; seek to role-model in speech, actions, and attitude a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ; set an example of the importance of spiritual discipline; and encourage students in the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and growing in their faith.




Additional Personal Qualities


The administrator shall:



  1. Recognize parents as primarily responsible for their children’s education and support them in that role.

  2. Demonstrate enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality.

  3. Maintain emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism under daily pressures.

  4. Model a professional appearance consistent with Christian standards and school policy.

  5. Communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English.

  6. Respect and support established authority.

  7. Notify administration of any policy he/she cannot support.

  8. Maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate handling of sensitive information.
