Elementary Lunch and Recess Aide

Employment Status: Part time non-exempt (approx. 15-20 hours per week)
 

Start Date: August 12, 2025 (Required pre-service trainings within the following dates: July 31–August 11)
Work Hours: School days, approximately 3 hours between 9:30 AM–1:30 PM. This position does not report on Teacher Workdays when students are not in session. 

Reports to: Business Manager  

Compensation: $16-20 per hour. Position includes retirement benefits through Colorado Public Employee Retirement Association (copera.org).

Position Description:  

The Lunch & Recess Aide supports daily lunchroom operations and occasional recess supervision, helping to create a safe, clean, and positive environment for students. This position requires a friendly, flexible individual who enjoys working with children and being part of a team. 

Position Responsibilities: 

• Set up and clean up the lunch area, including tables, trays, and utensils 
• Serve meals and assist students as needed during lunch periods 
• Monitor and support students during lunch to maintain safety and respectful behavior 
• Clean tables, sweep floors, wipe surfaces, and take out trash after lunch service 
• Manage spills and other messes in a timely, hygienic manner 
• Active supervision of recess when needed, encouraging safe and inclusive play 
• Lift and move lunch equipment and trash bags as required (up to 30 lbs) 
• Communicate positively and respectfully with students and staff 
• Follow school safety, health, and sanitation procedures 
• Occasionally substitute for the onsite day porter in a custodial capacity 

Requirements

Required Qualifications: 

• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds 
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods 
• Ability to follow cleaning and safety procedures 
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work scheduled hours 
• Comfortable working around and engaging with elementary-aged children 
• Basic communication skills in English 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Previous experience in a school or food service setting 
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) 
• Bilingual abilities a plus (Spanish, French, or Mandarin) 
• Experience supervising children in a group setting
