Emergency Veterinary Technician/Assistant

Location: Georgia Veterinary Emergency and Triage Services (GVETS) Watkinsville, Georgia

Job Type: Full-time / Part-time (Evenings, Weekends, Holidays required)

 We are looking for skilled and motivated Emergency Veterinary Technician/Assistant to join our team.

What You’ll Do
• Perform triage and initial assessments on incoming emergency cases.
• Assist with emergency cases.
• Provide hands-on nursing care for critical patients.
• Place IV catheters, administer medications, and perform lab work.
• Assist veterinarians with emergency examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
• Assist with diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
• Monitor patients and document treatments accurately.
• Support pet owners with clear communication and compassion.
• Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed.
• Monitor and record patient vital signs, pain levels, and response to therapy.
• Provide intensive nursing care to hospitalized and critical patients.

Technical Skills
• Place and maintain IV catheters, perform venipuncture, and collect lab samples.
• Operate diagnostic equipment (e.g., radiology, ultrasound, laboratory analyzers).
• Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
• Perform CPR and emergency resuscitation when required.

Client Communication & Support
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding patient status and treatments.
• Provide emotional support to pet owners during emergency and critical situations.
• Educate clients on discharge instructions, medication administration, and follow-up care.

Hospital Operations
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment, ICU, and surgical areas.
• Ensure all equipment and supplies are stocked and in working order.
• Adhere to hospital safety, sanitation, and infection-control protocols.
• Accurately document patient records, treatments, and progress notes.

What We’re Looking For
• Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT, RVT, LVT) preferred; NON-experienced veterinary assistants will be considered.
• Previous experience in emergency/critical care strongly preferred.
• Ability to thrive in a high-energy, team-oriented environment.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and multitasking abilities.
• Willingness and desire to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Strong technical skills in emergency and critical care medicine is desirable.
