The EMS Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive training programs for emergency medical personnel. This role includes designing the curriculum, conducting training sessions, and evaluating performance to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Additionally, the coordinator may mentor and support EMS staff, facilitate continuing education opportunities, and collaborate with leadership to identify training needs and enhance overall operational effectiveness. This position also coordinates the implementation and tracking of the EMS Stipend.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop comprehensive training programs for emergency medical personnel based on industry standards and regulations.
  • Design curriculum and training materials tailored to various skill levels and roles within the EMS team.
  • Conduct training sessions in both classroom and practical settings, ensuring engagement and comprehension.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics.
  • Maintain updated training materials and techniques to reflect advancements in EMS practices and technology.
  • Coordinate and facilitate continuing education opportunities to maintain certifications and licensures.
  • Coordinate with shift supervisors, vice presidents, directors, and operation managers to identify training needs and address gaps in operations.
  • Maintain documentation and records of training activities, certifications, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a liaison with external training organizations, accrediting bodies, and regulatory agencies to ensure alignment with industry standards.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  

SKILLS/EDUCATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication skills. Experience interacting with community groups or forums.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Required Education and Experience
  • A combination of training and experience provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Five years of emergency response experience.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • The position requires graduation from high school and 5+ years of EMS experience. Certification as a Paramedic in the State of Tennessee and endorsements as an Instructor Coordinator or Program Director are also required.

  • PALS Instructor
  • BLS Instructor
  • PHTLS Instructor (Preferred)
  • NAEMT Instructor (Preferred)
  • EVOC Instructor (Preferred)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful candidates must submit and pass a post offer, pre-employment physical examination, drug test and criminal background check
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening
  • Work within the Vital Medical Transport Compliance Program
  • Maintain all certifications and licenses throughout employment 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work in all environments.
  • Position involves working in stressful situations at times. Must be able to maintain calm and reassure parties that may be hostile, ill, scared or suicidal.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have functional hearing and vision. 

EQUIPMENT AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 

Employees will receive orientation and ongoing education in areas like adult learning, clinical care, critical thinking, customer service, and emergency medical resources. Annual training on medical, trauma, and behavioral emergencies, as well as equipment for patient assessment and transport, is mandatory.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment is high-risk, involving indoor and outdoor tasks in various weather conditions, including during disasters and mass casualty events. Personnel may face diverse medical conditions and emotional states while operating emergency vehicles like ambulances.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Employees must assist with patient movements using an ambulance stretcher (up to 250 pounds with a partner) and perform various physical tasks, including walking, crawling, and kneeling. They should be able to carry patients and equipment over different distances and terrains and transport the EKG monitor and jump bag unassisted.
