Description

The Virginia Zoo, founded in 1901, is located in Norfolk, VA and is home to more than 700 animals representing over 150 species. It resides on 53 acres and is mostly outdoors with an indoor World of Reptiles exhibit, 3 classrooms, and an indoor restaurant and gift shop.

The Event Staff work as a support to the Events Department and assists with all aspect of The Virginia Zoo’s private and special events programs. The Event Staff prepares supplies, sets up equipment and décor, and performs other event-related duties as needed. During an event, Event Staff may also assist as an additional avenue of communication between vendors/clients/guests and The Virginia Zoo to ensure a successful event for everyone. 

This is a seasonal part time, hourly non-exempt position. Reports to the Event Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Set up and dismantle Private Rental and Zoo Special Events efficiently through to completion, including, but not limited to, signage, décor, tables and chairs, lighting, etc.
• Fill-in, when necessary, to help ensure the success of the event by partnering with internal staff and other departments including custodial, security, Guest Services, and Food Service.
• Assist with storing and organizing Events equipment in its respective storage areas, maintaining and updating supplies and equipment inventories, and reporting low stock levels, damage or loss thereof.
• Staff/monitor gates to assist with guest and/or vendor entry and exit.
• Act as a secondary client contact during Private Events and maintain communication with other Event staff as needed to fulfill requests.
• Support the events department with logistical and administrative support.
• Any additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Events experience is a plus, but not a requirement for consideration.
• Experience with working with planograms or site maps is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing and moving are required.
• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times. 
• Must be able to work outside year-round in varying weather conditions.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must have a valid Driver’s license as this position will operate a golf cart occasionally.
