Job Description - Family and Consumer Science Teaching Assistant - Sewing (Part-Time)

Opening for 2025-2026 Academic Year

St. Joseph's Academy is an all-girls Catholic high school in Baton Rouge, LA. Our mission is to educate young women as responsible and unifying members of the world community. In the spirit and charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph, St. Joseph's Academy offers opportunities for faith development in the Catholic tradition, academic excellence and personal growth.

St. Joseph’s Academy seeks a Family and Consumer Science Teaching Assistant for Sewing to support high school students in learning sewing techniques and clothing design. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in clothing construction and apparel design, with a passion for teaching and mentoring students.

Skills:

Strong computer/technology skills
An understanding in basic sewing terminology and techniques
Ability to problem solve and take initiative
Ability to interact with high school age females
General understanding of basic clothing fitting and pattern alterations/manipulation

Job requirements:

Prep materials needed for demonstration and sewing sample practice
Flexible schedule to remain after school occasionally to assist students to catch up on missed class work
Shop with students outside of class time to assist is purchasing fabric for class projects
Create ways through technology to improve the sewing experience for the students
Assist teacher as needed and instruct students when called upon

A college degree is required with a focus on clothing construction and apparel design preferred.
