Job Description - FAMILY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Description

Support the mission of the YMCA—a leading nonprofit dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As Family Engagement Coordinator, you’ll supervise Child Watch, manage unforgettable Y Birthday Parties, and plan engaging family and youth programs that enhance the member experience. This role blends administrative duties, front-line member interaction, and leadership of events like Kid’s Night Out—all centered around creating a welcoming, fun-filled environment for families.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


1. Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers, and guests.
2. Build relationships by using names and initiating conversations with all members, staff, volunteers, and guests.
3. Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise, and positive manner while using Listen First skills.
4. Understands, supports, and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
5. Actively participates in management team meetings and committees as assigned.
6. Play an active role in the annual campaign, recruiting campaigners and serving where needed on planning committees.
7. Assist with marketing/promotions to ensure consistent messaging around the Y as a cause-driven charitable organization, including community/organization events.
8. Work to ensure a diverse and inclusive culture at the Y.
9. Know and follow the established Human Resources and Finance procedures of the association.
10. Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA
safety and risk management policies.
11. Follow all policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook, department handbook
and the emergency response plan manual.
12. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, and schedule all employees and volunteers within your
departments.
13. Motivate and engage your employees and volunteers to increase retention and understanding
of our Cause through regular staff meetings.
14. Lead, direct and/or teach activities/classes/shifts for which employees or volunteers cannot be
secured. - in our Child Watch area.
15. Assist in approving payroll for your department as outlined in the payroll guidelines.

16. Assist in annual performance reviews on all employees within your department.
17. Coordinate and supervise program activities to meet YMCA objectives (see detailed list below)
18. Take part in YMCA activities and special events as needed; encourage staff, youth, family and
teen participation as well, in order to ensure the events success
19. Attend YMCA trainings as assigned by supervisor
20. Act as a positive role model while implementing YMCA character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect.
21. Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in Child Watch, Birthday parties, Kids’s Night Out and Programs.
22. Purchase supplies for department as needed.
23. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
24. Coordinates and facilitate birthday parties.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with all ages
  • Interpersonal & coaching skills
  • Supervisory Experience a plus
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 6 months
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • 21 Years of Age or Older 
  • Ability to work with children and to supervise others
  • Knowledge of teambuilding, non-competitive and competitive games, youth programs
  • Ability for a flexible schedule
  • Valid driver’s license
