Job Description - Family Engagement Specialist (90 Day Project)

Position Overview: 


Position: Part-Time Seasonal Position


Program Dates: 90 days (not to exceed May 31, 2026)


Hours: 20 - 25 hours per week


Schedule: Variable hours between January and May 2026.  Evening and weekend availability may be required.



Work Location: 


Primarily on-site work at afterschool partner locations and community event venues throughout Palm Beach County.  Office space provided per scheduled hours at FLIPANY’s Lake Worth or Dania office.



Position Description:


FLIPANY is seeking a motivated and organized Family Engagement Specialist for Community Events to support a short-term, project-based initiative focused on nutrition, healthy cooking, and overall wellness. This part-time seasonal role will lead the planning and delivery of 35 one-hour family engagement events at afterschool sites throughout Palm Beach County and coordinate FLIPANY’s presence at 10 community events or health fairs.



This position is ideal for professionals with experience in nutrition education, community health, or family programming who enjoy hands-on facilitation, event coordination, and community outreach.



Qualifications



  • Experience in nutrition education, family engagement, community health, wellness, or a related field.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

  • Experience facilitating group activities for families or community audiences.

  • Knowledge of healthy cooking, nutrition education, and budget-conscious food practices.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with program staff.

  • Comfortable supervising interns or volunteers.

  • Familiarity with South Florida communities and food environments preferred.





Key Responsibilities:



     


    Family Engagement Programming



    • Plan, finalize, and deliver curriculum for 35 one-hour family engagement activities at afterschool partner sites.

    • Ensure activities focus on:


      – Healthy habits and nutrition education 


      – Healthy cooking and food preparation 


      – Reading nutrition labels and making informed food choices 


      – Healthy shopping on a budget and economic considerations 


      – Stretching food resources to feed families affordably 


      – Preparing healthy 15-minute meals as alternatives to fast food 


      – Finding healthy food options while on the go in South Florida 


      – Supporting children’s healthy eating habits and communicating nutrition concepts to families 


      – Fun, interactive activities that strengthen family bonding around healthy eating 


     


    Community Events & Health Fairs



    • Identify, secure, and coordinate participation in 10 community events in the Palm Beach area.

    • Organize FLIPANY’s presence in a health fair–style format, including:


      – Coordinating logistics with event organizers 


      – Setting up informational tables 


      – Engaging families and community members 


      – Distributing samples, educational materials, and program information 



    • Coordinate and guide interns and staff at community events


    Oversee volunteers and interns; ensure the intern schedule is managed and that tasks are appropriate.



    • Be present at events as needed to ensure smooth execution and positive organizational representation.


     


    Event Coordination and Supervision



    • Coordinate schedules and logistics with partner afterschool sites.

    • Attend all scheduled events and ensure programs run smoothly.

    • Supervise, mentor, and guide interns supporting events.

    • Teach or co-facilitate sessions when necessary.



    Intern Oversight



    • Supervise and support interns in Palm Beach County by coordinating assignments, providing ongoing guidance, and ensuring punctuality and professionalism.

    • Track, verify, and maintain accurate records of intern hours in compliance with program and organizational requirements.

    • Ensure interns are thoroughly trained, effectively contributing to team goals, and receiving a meaningful, supportive, and rewarding learning experience.


     


    Budget and Materials Management



    • Manage an assigned program supply budget.

    • Track expenses accurately and submit required documentation.

    • Ensure all activities include age-appropriate, multilingual, take-home materials for families.






      Physical Requirements: 


      Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, sit, stand, hear, use hands to fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, and read and write English. Physical capability to effectively use and operate
      various items of office equipment, such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machines.
       
       


      Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to extreme temperatures, sunlight, noise, dirt, and dust is common. Work may be performed on uneven surfaces. While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee must be able to lift, carry, and/or push articles weighing up to 50 lbs.
