Job Description - First Impressions Specialist

Job Title: First Impressions Specialist


Supervisor: Facilities Coordinator


Job Type: Part-Time


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Hours: M-F 12:00 PM-5:00 PM, opportunities for additional hours as needed. 20-30 hours a week (not to exceed 1,560 hours annually)


Salary Range: $20.00-$26.00 per hour


Close Date: Friday, March 27th at 3pm

The Role:


Thompson Rivers Parks and Recreation District is seeking a fun and energetic individual, who can help us provide a healthy, happy community through people, parks, programs, and partnerships! This individual needs to have first rate frontline skills as they will be responsible for expectation-exceeding, “WOW level” customer care.



Duties and Responsibilities



  • Demonstrate a high-level of customer service at all times by effectively communicating with recreation guests in-person communication, or via telephone, and email.

  • Registering participants for programs, cardio and open gym reservations, and other general duties.

  • Demonstrates safe work habits with awareness of co-workers and public safety

  • Works effectively in a team environment by completing assignments, adapting to changing circumstances and respecting diversity.

  • Perform responsible and complex administrative work involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.

  • Caring for guests in our facility by determining their needs and providing appropriate and accurate information as well as directing guests to the appropriate location desired.

  • Assists with controlling facility access, admissions, managing memberships, and selling passes.

  • Completes monetary transactions, including cash/check handling and credit card processing in accordance with city and department cash handling policies. This includes use of a cash drawer and compiling with daily cash balances and end-of-day reports.

  • Assist in a variety of department operations.

  • Assist with setup and cleanup of equipment for facility rentals, activities, programs and special events.

  • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and general upkeep of the MAC and fitness equipment by performing general cleaning and other custodial duties as necessary.

  • Monitors guest adherence to facility rules, policies, guidelines, and safety standards. Reports any disruptive behavior to appropriate staff members.

  • Assist in completing and coordinating special projects, events, and other assignments as directed by department staff or management.

  • Attend staff trainings and meetings as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Skills and qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Any combination equivalent to work experience involving assisting the public, general record keeping and/or handling money.

  • Cash handling.

  • Must be CPR/AED and First Aid certified or willing to obtain withing 60 days.

  • Knowledge and ability to read and write, operate personal computer and keyboard, calculator, telephone, and proper office procedures.

  • Knowledge on PC computers and computerized cash register.

  • Solid organizational skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Skills in Windows and MS office.

  • Ability to work mornings, midday, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas (to add and subtract totals) to multiply and divide.

  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, respond calmly and professionally to stressful or emergency situations.

  • Knowledge and ability to learn current policies and procedures.

  • Ability to conduct several tasks at once with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to use independent judgement while applying general organizational policies and values.

Physical Requirements


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.


The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and possess above average physical mobility, strength, and agility. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires a high level of physical, emotional, and mental energy.



Environmental Considerations


Requires considerable movement around the facility to monitor activities. Most work is performed indoors at the Milliken Athletic Complex. Requires sitting/standing at a desk during 75% or more of the assigned shift. This is a busy office environment where noise and interruptions are common. May be required to utilize cleaning materials and have contact with various chemicals for duties such as mopping, sanitizing down doors, equipment, and workstation.
