Job purpose 

 

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented food lover to join our team. The Food Pantry Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the NKC Healthy Market pantry, ensuring efficient distribution of food to individuals and families in need. This role manages inventory, coordinates volunteers, and maintains a welcoming and respectful environment for clients. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the food pantry, including opening/closing procedures 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked inventory across warehouse space, coolers, and freezers; ensure proper rotation, labeling, and storage of all food items in compliance with health and safety guidelines. 
  • Keep the pantry stocked, utilizing FIFO guidelines and incorporating close-dated and federal commodity food as well as bakery items 
  • Provide direction, training, and leadership to a dedicated team of volunteers 
  • Check in and assist pantry shoppers as needed 
  • Assist with all food program distributions: Kent County Community Action, Meals on Wheels Senior Pantry, and NKC seasonal programming 
  • Oversee the food donation process, including receiving, inspecting, sorting, and organizing donations 
  • Oversee routine cleaning, organization, and light maintenance checks of the warehouse, pantry, and walk-in coolers/freezers. 
  • Make food pickups from local farmers, restaurants, and grocers as needed. 
  • Ensure the pantry is clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations. 

 

Requirements   

  • High school diploma or equivalent  
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Self-starter and possess a high degree of initiative. 
  • Fluent in Spanish preferred 
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations and in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds and perform physical tasks as required (standing, lifting, bending) 
  • Have valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing.  
  • ServSafe certification (training provided). 
  • Operate a Hi-lo (training provided). 
  • Passion for the mission and vision of NKC 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products & Outlook e-mail system 
  • Ability to form and establish positive partnerships in the community 
  • Must work well in a team environment 
  • $17.00 per hour pay rate.  
  • Benefits include 3 weeks paid time off, 5 paid holidays, plus the week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.
