Job Description - Food Service Specialist

Under the direction of the East County Manager, this position will perform the daily operations of the Concrete Community Center Meal Program. Including preparing food, serving food, greeting and assisting guests, etc. This position is a temporary – part-time position that is needed to keep the meal program running during the renovation of the Concrete Community Center.  Lunches are prepped/served in one location and everything is packed in and packed out daily as it is stored at another site. This position will sunset when the Concrete Community Center remodel has been complete.



This will be 20-25 hours per week.



JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:



  1. Prepare and serve lunches daily for 30+ guests.

  2. Must maintain quality guest records for data entry.

  3. Work with volunteers to complete daily food service.

  4. Must act as a positive representative of Community Action.

  5. Provide accurate information about resources offered through Community Action to guests during sign in and lunch service.

  6. Maintain a constant level of cleanliness and organization at all work areas/sites, in the church, resource center, and storage areas, etc., during and after meals

  7. Provide consistent overall quality and quantity of food served. Ensure foods are cooked, held, served, stored, etc., according to HACCP procedures for food handling.

  8. Meet or exceed health department requirements for food safety and service

  9. Ensure general safety and sanitation procedures are followed at all times. Handle and dispose of refuse, using proper sanitation procedures

  10. Ensure food is properly labeled, stocked, and stored to maintain quality and food safety.

  11. Assist supervisor with weekly meal plan development and execution as requested.

  12. Assist supervisor with purchasing of meal program products, food, and items, as requested.

  13. Participate in agency, community and coalition meetings and trainings as

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:


Education & Experience



  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Food preparation experience required.

  • Experience leading the work of other volunteers preferred, but not required.

  • Or a combination of education/experience meeting required job qualifications.


License(s) & Certification(s)



  • Valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance required for work related travel.

  • WA State Food Handler’s Permit REQUIRED

  • First Aid & CPR Preferred.

  • ServSafe Essentials Preferred.


Skills & Abilities



  • Knowledge of basic quantity food preparation, food service, and sanitation principles as it applies to community food service.

  • Ability to interact with and communicate courteously and effectively with a variety of diverse audiences including coworkers, management, and members of the community.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions and to perform assigned tasks with limited supervision.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills required, with the ability to multitask

  • Must have strong and effective communication skills (oral and written).

  • Ability to be an effective and positive ambassador for the agency.

  • Competency of standard office procedures and equipment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with people from varied cultural, socioeconomic, educational and experiential backgrounds.



WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally performed in an office/church kitchen environment, unless otherwise indicated in job duties.  Sufficient mobility required to perform essential functions, including the ability to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, reach, grasp, push, pull, lift, and move objects that may weight up to 50 pounds  Must be able to push and pull wagon of supplies. Extended standing may be required.  Sufficient mobility required for use of standard office equipment.  Hearing and communication ability must be sufficient to perform essential job functions. Travel within and outside Agency’s service area may be required.



COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:


Pay range between $19.45 - $21.46 per hour (DOE)
