General Summary:


Forerunners are responsible for working with the routesetters to edit and finalize route skeletons by prioritizing safety, function, equitability, and difficulty through physically testing climbs, actively discussing edits, and applying changes for the betterment of facility product. Forerunners repeatedly test climbs to aid routesetters in creating an enjoyable experience on the wall for climbers of all experience levels and sizes. Forerunners work as a team to fulfill the goals and assignments of the Head Routesetter, including (but not limited to): climbing, belaying, and maintaining work zones.



Core Functions:



  • Exemplify outstanding customer service fitting with the Edgeworks Core Values, Mission and Brand while constantly displaying a positive attitude.

  • Accept and execute responsibilities associated with work at height jobs.

  • Arrive on time and ready to work.

  • Maintain zone safety and tidiness.

  • Maintain setting tools and equipment.

  • Assist in basic wall maintenance, i.e. stripped holds, replacing T-nuts.

  • Be open to feedback and constructive criticism from fellow department members and managerial staff.

  • Be willing to make the necessary changes to climbs to maintain Edgeworks’ quality and safety 

  • Assist the Head Route Setter with competitions and special events throughout the year.

  • Assist the Head Route Setter in developing and ensuring that Edgeworks is the region's destination for indoor climbing.



Principal Activities:



ROPE FORERUNNING



  • Follow all department safety procedures and employee expectations.

  • Be lead climbing & belay certified in our facilities

  • Identify and minimize fall hazards, rope drag, and poor clipping stances

  • Maintain grade consistency within a route and throughout the entire gym

  • Prioritize equitability and accessibility


BOULDER FORERUNNING



  • Follow all department procedures and employee expectations.

  • Identify and minimize fall hazards and hazardous movement

  • Maintain grade consistency within a route and throughout the entire gym

  • Prioritize equitability and accessibility



Qualifications:



  • At least 2 years of prior climbing experience

  • Ability to work at height or willingness to learn skills

  • Ability to work using suspension systems or willingness to learn skills

  • Ability to lift/carry objects up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

  • Basic knowledge of suspension systems through rope and anchor management skills or willingness to learn skills

  • Good problem solving skills

  • Must be willing to understand, accept, apply, and give constructive feedback in a professional manner

  • Excellent oral communication skills.

  • Self-motivated with proven able to balance multiple, simultaneous priorities

  • Must be 18 or older
