Job Description - French Horn Instructor

TITLE: French Horn Instructor
REPORTS TO:   Director of Instrumental and Vocal (IVI) Instruction
LOCATION: Minneapolis, Onsite
SCHEDULE:   Weekday Afternoons and Evenings, Saturdays (Flexible - Based on Availability & Demand)
STATUS:   Exempt; Part-Time
START DATE:   Fall 2025
COMPENSATION:  Instruction hourly pay rate determination by level of tuition, education, experience.
Level 1 = $42.00 - $49.00 per hour
Level 2 = $50.00 - $59.00 per hour

Job Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of teaching expertise. The instructor teaches individual French horn lessons for students of varying levels (beginning to advanced) with an emphasis on the beginners who are interested in learning a variety of musical styles.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Foster a positive learning environment
Establish a good rapport with students and families, encouraging open discussion
Provide expert music instruction, including demonstrating playing during lessons and coaching the student
Manage studio, including: recruitment, lesson planning, scheduling, registration paperwork, Outlook calendar maintenance, phone calls, and communication
Participation in the IVI department, including: attending department meetings
Engagement in the overall work and mission of MacPhail Center for Music
Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A degree or certification in music or music education, or the equivalent, preferred
Experience: Minimum of three years of studio teaching working with all ages and skill levels of which a significant portion is with young students and beginners, preferred. Experience teaching small groups, preferred. Experience teaching diverse styles of music, preferred.
Skills & Abilities. Effective communication skills. Demonstrated cultural competency skills and commitment to contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
