Gallup Store Clerk

The Store Clerk is first and foremost responsible for customer relations and satisfaction. The Clerk is also responsible for ensuring the department and store maintains its cleanliness, safety and appeal to customers. Duties include all product processing (i.e. pricing, purchasing, and merchandising), sanitation, safety, and stocking procedures on all products while removing expired products from displays. Most importantly, the Clerk will make all customers feel welcomed by acknowledging or greeting each customer and providing genuine, helpful, and respectful customer service and information on products. This position works to ensure this excellent experience for customers continues at the end of shopping experience through efficient and accurate customer check-out, proper cash handling, and addressing any final questions or concerns.

SOME ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Models, provides, and ensures customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services in a professional manner.
• Maintains and updates as needed ServSafe® certification.
• Ensures federal, state, local and La Montañita Food Cooperative regulations and standards for product freshness, safety, refrigeration, sanitation and weights and measures are being adhered to and met.
• Adequately accepts, orders, receives, prepares, packages, labels, displays, stocks, replenishes floor stock and inventories merchandise.
• Helps customers make product selections by answering questions and providing information about items.
• Maintains cleanliness of the sales floor, customer restrooms, and grounds at the direction of Front End management.
• Checks prices, cleans spills, restocks items, and performs other duties as needed.
• Handles all transactions accurately including giving correct change, entering correct departments and prices, and appropriately handling all transactions.
• Maintains a working knowledge of all PLUs and register procedures.
• Handles and assists with refunds, paid outs, and Co-op memberships.
• Maintains inventory controls through minimizing products damage, checking dates, organization and ensuring order accuracy.
• Maintains a working knowledge of all processes related to Front End operations.
• Maintains signage and makes sure price changes are applied timely, no later than a week, after receipt.
• Print shelf tags for new items, tag requests, price changes and promotional signs (such as “manager specials”).
• Reinforces and practices preventive maintenance and safety within the store by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and equipment; then notifies store management or addressing the concern if appropriate.

ATTRIBUTES AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Customer service skills (able to complete the full customer service cycle).
• Effective communication skills
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition and subtraction).
• Ability to adhere and follow safety, regulatory and Front End guidelines. Safety Conscious and adhering to required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is required.
• Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Able to deal and adapt to changes in the work environment, industry with a calm professional demeanor.
• Dependable, reliable and self-motivated.
