POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Coaches and instructs, while implementing high quality Group exercise classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Instructional Expertise: Leads energizing, fun, and safe group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
2. Instructional Attendance: 80% attendance in all regularly scheduled classes, timeliness, and direct communication with Supervisor.
3. Maintain accurate attendance statistics per branch procedure.
4. Immediately report problems, breakdowns in equipment and any unusual situations to the appropriate director.
5. Professional Certifications: see below under Qualifications.
6. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals or directs them to the appropriate staff person. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of group exercise and fitness trends to provide effective information and support to members.
7. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
8. Follows YMCA of Greater Whittier policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations according to EAP procedure.
9. Empathetically listen and communicate for understanding. Build relationships to create small communities. Build and nurture strategic collaborations within the community.
10. Participates in Y fundraising efforts.
11. Respond to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
12. Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
13. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
14. Represents the YMCA of Greater Whittier when participating in community events, as needed.
15. Fingerprints will be taken prior to commencement of employment and results will be submitted to the
16. Association Administration Office.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma.
2. One year related experience preferred.
3. Minimum age requirements of 18.
4. Child Abuse Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens, WorkForce Link, and CPR, First Aid, AED certifications required within 30 days of employment.
5. Criminal Clearance, Health Exam with TB test, Clear Drug Screening
6. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications. Must demonstrate coaching skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
7. Group Exercise Certification
