HVAC/R Service Apprentice

In this role, you will travel to various clients’ locations to inspect their current equipment, identify problems with their units, and perform necessary repairs or routine maintenance. As an Apprentice, you will assist with the installation, relocation, and maintenance of building HVAC equipment and systems; assist in the diagnosis of malfunctions of HVAC equipment and systems and/or components for the purpose of identifying repair and replacement needs.

HVAC/R Apprentice Duties and Responsibilities

• Uses safety equipment, supplies, and procedures to perform job duties as required; reports fire, sanitary, and safety hazards and the need for repairs to the appropriate team leader 
• Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and to maintain a functional educational environment; provides reports on activities as requested
• Stores and shelves equipment and other supplies in conformance with various local, state, federal, and district rules and regulations; maintains equipment in a safe operating condition; maintains preventive maintenance procedures, records, and reports
• Safeguards property; adheres to all state and federal laws and regulations regarding safety and health
• Assists in installation, relocation, and maintenance of building HVAC/R equipment and systems; assists in the diagnoses of malfunctions of HVAC/R equipment and systems and/or components for the purpose of identifying repair and replacement needs
• Assists in installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration units
• Assists in installation and maintenance of fan coil units and air handling units including filter changes, periodic lubrication, bearing change out, and drive belt replacement
• Assists in installation and maintenance of exhaust fans and associated controls, hot water, chilled water and domestic water circulating pump; rebuilds pumps as required
• Assists in the maintenance and repair of hot water boilers to optimize efficiency; assists in the maintenance of hydronic units needed for heating and ventilation, steam generators and boilers.
• Assists in maintenance and repair of direct expansion, roof top package air conditioning with hot water, electric or gas heating, chillers and associated control devices
• Assists in the fabrication and installation of minor sheet metal work and ducting
• Can independently complete filtre change and proper coil cleaning

HVAC/R Apprentice Requirements and Qualifications

• Familiar with manual and power tools
• Reliable transportation
• Must be able to be insurable by our commercial insurance company
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Current driver’s license and ability to drive a company vehicle
• Ability to work after hours, over weekends, and on public holidays with short or no notice
• Ability to lift and transfer 50-75lbs safely 
• Physically agile, dexterous, and able to work in confined spaces
• Must be able to maintain a safe work environment
