Info Services Advisor

Do you love talking about the latest best-seller books? Do you like tracking down information? Are you someone who enjoys approaching customers of all ages and cultures and connecting them with their information needs and interests?

Our Info Services team has an opportunity for an avid reader, with a broad knowledge of books, music, and movies, to make recommendations for library customers. This position involves extensive interaction with the public, to provide customers access to the full range of library services via in-person, online chat, and other modes of delivery.

Additional advisor responsibilities include facilitating book discussions, writing staff reviews, curating displays, developing reading lists and maintaining online resources.

Requirements & Skills

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


• Proven track record of collaborating in a team environment.


• Strong knowledge of popular fiction and nonfiction authors & titles; ability to make recommendations for library customers. 


• Experience facilitating meetings, group discussions, public speaking or making presentations. 


• Strong writing skills

Education

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.

Hours and Scheduling

22 hours per week; schedule includes mornings, afternoons, evenings and every 4th weekend.

Salary and Benefits

$19.51 to $24.39/hour depending on qualifications  

Benefits include two weeks of prorated leave time, which include vacation, sick and personal time plus 7 paid holidays, participation in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension plan, availability of Roth/457savings plan and other optional benefits such as pet insurance & identity theft protection.
