Job Description - Interim Nursery/Pre-K Ministry Lead
The Interim Nursery/Pre-K Ministry Lead at Church on the Rock will temporarily step in to provide leadership, care, and oversight for children ages one through Pre-K 5 during the absence of the current lead. As a core leadership member of the Children’s Ministry Department, this role is responsible not only for creating a safe, nurturing environment for young children, but also for caring for the hearts of parents, serve team members, and fellow leaders. Responsibilities include managing the nursing mom’s room, as well as the one’s, two’s, three-year-olds, and Pre-K 5 rooms during all Sunday services. The Interim Lead will also support volunteers, implement curriculum, and report directly to the Children’s Ministry Director – Wasilla Campus throughout the transition period.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following is a list of responsibilities regarding this position at Church on the Rock.
Your highest priority is to be available Sunday mornings, to staff each class and gather substitutes if necessary.
Arrive no later than 7:30am, have the class set up and greet the teachers with love.
Organize and schedule workers for Sunday services.
Prepare curriculum, crafts, and snacks as needed for each classroom/service.
Weekly schedule reminder calls and regular communication with ministry team.
Recruit, train, supervise, resource and encourage the coordinators and serve team members.
Fill Co-leader position as necessary in collaboration with the Children’s Ministry Director
Make prior arrangements for a service co-leader or high level serve team member to cover your position for any Sunday you cannot attend or would like to take the day off. Be sure to request time off in Bamboo in advance of your absence as well as inform the Children’s Ministry Director.
Assist Children’s Ministry Director with training events, and appreciation events/gifts.
Submit supply requests to Children’s Ministry Director a week prior to needing the supplies purchased.
Abide by the Volunteer Screening Process, Children’s Ministry Policies and Procedures Handbook, and the Church on the Rock Staff Policies and Procedures Handbook
COMPENSATION & TIME COMMITMENT
$15 per hour | Up to 20 hours per week
EXPECTATIONS
The Interim Ministry Lead is responsible for carrying out and communicating the vision of the Children’s Ministry to their team of volunteers. They should be prepared to step into any role they oversee when needed, troubleshoot issues that arise during Sunday services, and offer support to church staff and volunteers with professionalism and discretion. This individual must demonstrate a Christ-like attitude, a genuine passion for children and families, and a heart for ministry. Key qualities include being teachable, dependable, and a strong communicator, with the ability to resolve problems effectively while maintaining positive relationships. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and ULink is also important.
In addition to their own spiritual and personal growth, the Interim Ministry Lead is expected to actively invest in the development of their team—both practically and spiritually. This includes understanding where team members are in their walk with Jesus, being aware of the scriptures that challenge them, and supporting them through struggles that may hinder their spiritual growth. The Lead should also take initiative in their own continued learning—administratively, creatively, and spiritually—while embracing training opportunities provided by Church on the Rock.
In regards to spiritual oversight, the Interim Nursery/Pre-K Ministry Lead as with all their responsibilities reports directly to the Children’s Ministry Director.

Preferred if applicant has experience in recruiting, training, and effectively leading a team.
Teachable and works well with others– How are you going to ‘gel’ with other leaders?Do you “play well” with others?Do you lead through example?Can you work with other people of differing mindsets and personalities?
