JOB TITLE: Interpretive Ambassador

REPORTS TO: Docent Coordinator

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: The Interpretive Ambassador will support the day-to-day operation of the Lehigh Valley Zoo's docent team and enhance the team's effectiveness by providing administrative and programmatic support to the Docent Coordinator. This position works collaboratively with other staff and docents to offer a fun, engaging, and educational experience for all the guests who visit the Lehigh Valley Zoo. This includes setting up and running interpretive tables and providing coverage for interactive activities. Interactive activities include but are not limited to giraffe feedings, lorikeet walk-throughs, kangaroo walkabouts, goat yards, and barnyards. Requires flexible schedule.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide exceptional guest service at all times by:

             Giving a warm welcome to every guest

             Being polite, professional and informative

             Having a friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic attitude about your job and the LV Zoo

             Assist guests in a helpful and courteous manner

             Going the "extra mile" for every guest, every time, to ensure a positive experience 

• Assist in the day-to-day coordination of the docents
• Increase docents' understanding of LVZ's vision, mission, goals, and messaging
• Assist in docent orientation and training 
• Implement the daily scheduling of docents
• Maintain Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for each docent assignment 
• Provide ongoing support and guidance for docents while striving to resolve grievances and promote cooperation 
• Assist in distributing docent communications 
• Participate in planned daily activities with the goal of guest education and revenue creation.
• Liaison to Docent Coordinator, Animal Care, and Education Departments for communicating about docent-run exhibits and activity stations
• Staffing all interactive activities, including but are not limited to giraffe feeds, Lorikeet walk-through, barnyard, goat feeding, fish feed and kangaroo walkabouts
• Be able to provide a flexible work schedule that requires one weekend day a week.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Physical Demands: Performing the job duties of this position involves walking throughout the zoo grounds, standing for long periods, and other physical tasks, including sit; stand; use hands to fingers; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. Employees must occasionally lift and/or move/transport up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. While performing these job duties, you will sometimes be required to work outside in all weather conditions throughout the day.
