Job Description - Junior High (6th-8th) In-School Suspension Monitor Part-time
Providence Hall is a charter school located in Herriman UT. Central to the school's mission is teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly. Students at the junior high participate in pathways that focus their classes in areas that not only meet state standards, but also support their individual interests, foster their desires to try something new, and aim to prepare them for transition to high school.
Providence Hall is seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic part-time In-School Suspension Monitor to join the Junior High (6th-8th).
The In-School Suspension (ISS) Monitor plays a critical role in supporting students who have been temporarily removed from their regular classroom setting. The part-time position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the ISS room, providing academic support, behavioral coaching, and structured routines to ensure student progress while promoting social-emotional growth and accountability.
Schedule:
8:00 am-3:15 pm Monday-Thursday on scheduled school days
Responsibilities:
Coordinate, supervise, and deliver instructional and behavioral activities to students assigned to the ISS program. Collect, distribute, and manage assignments from classroom teachers to ensure students remain current with academic requirements. Provide direct tutorial assistance, monitor completion of work, and support individual learning needs while in ISS.
Guide students in examining misbehavior and developing personal strategies to prevent repeated infractions.
Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and administrators to reinforce positive behavior and emotional regulation.
Facilitate structured activities and behavioral tasks designed to reinforce personal responsibility and self-reflection.
Support, redirect, and de-escalate student behavior in real time.
Assist students in resolving conflicts and facilitate their successful reintegration into the regular classroom environment.
Maintain open lines of communication with teachers to update them on student progress and challenges.
Contact and collaborate with parents/guardians regarding student conduct, progress in ISS, and behavior modification plans.
Respond promptly to emails and phone calls from school leaders and other staff.
Supervise students' movement within the building, including transitions to/from classrooms, learning areas, and the cafeteria.
Support safe school operations by monitoring hallway behavior and intervening in conflicts or emergency situations. Be available to assist in stopping fights, resolving altercations, and other urgent student issues as they arise.
Refer students to administration when additional support or disciplinary action is warranted.
Assign and oversee additional behavior-related assignments in alignment with student infractions.
Supervise students in the cafeteria and enforce expectations and standards.
Facilitate safe and organized movement of students across campus during transitions and drills.
Collaborate with colleagues to support the school in general.
Maintain effective communication channels to ensure a collaborative school community.
Actively participate in assigned meetings, professional developments, and other trainings.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required
Prior experience working with adolescents in an educational, behavioral, or counseling capacity
Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and authority in high-stress situations
Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a dynamic school environment
Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and upholding school policies
Good organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to multitask easily
Positive interpersonal and communication skills
Willing to effectively problem-solve as needed
Basic knowledge of Google Workspace and its collaboration tools
Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting
Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment
Lift up to 25 pounds, traverse school facilities, and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency
