Karting Track Staff

Karting Staff provide support as customers prepare for their karting experience. They ensure customers have appropriate safety gear and manage races with hands-on support to maintain smooth operation of the track. 

Reporting Relationships: Karting staff work under the direction of the Karting Operations Manager and work closely with customers, other karting staff, and mechanics.

Essential Duties:

• Contribute to a culture based on reputation, respect, integrity, and dependability.
• Clean, prepare, and fuel karts for events and daily operations. 
• Assist customers with putting on safety equipment.
• Ensure customers view the safety briefing and review or demonstrate principles, techniques, safety procedures, and use of materials/equipment as needed.
• Keep sessions continuing in a timely fashion. 
• Assign participants to karts for each session and direct them to their assigned karts.
• Inspect karts for low fuel, tire wear, tire pressure, and other mechanical issues. 
• Report incidents to supervisor. 
• Tag kart malfunctions and needed repairs and inform supervisor. 
• Maintain the karting pit lane and other work areas in a neat and orderly manner. 

Additional Duties:

• Be familiar with the facility-wide Pitt Race calendar of events and facility offerings.

PIRC personnel work as a supportive and interdependent team. Other duties will be assigned as needed and a willingness to assist other PIRC roles is expected. 

Working Conditions: 

• Work a flexible schedule during the peak season (April – October).
• Outdoor duties include exposure to hot, cold, and inclement weather conditions.
• Walk or stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 50 lbs.
• Push and steer unpowered karts.
• Assist off-track and/or stalled participants with safely reentering the track.
• Pull-start karts for customers. 
• Communicate via two-way radios. 
• Ability to maneuver flags to provide visual communication to drivers on track. 
• React calmly in challenging situations and function well in a stressful environment.
• Exposure to gasoline and other common karting chemicals.
• Exposure to safety equipment cleaning supplies.
• Ability to complete hands-on fire extinguisher training and CPR certification.

Requirements

  Minimum Qualifications:

• 16 years of age or older.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills. 
• Familiarity with computers and tablet devices.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A general understanding of racetrack operations and a passion for motorsports.
