Laboratory Assistant (Part Time- 3rd Shift)

SUMMARY: The Laboratory Assistant, under the direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager or Coordinator, assists with performing clinical laboratory testing in various sections of the lab and supports the lab with clerical duties. Interacts with other staff members and communicates with clients as outlined. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Greets onsite clients, collects specimens, and processes necessary paperwork.
• Follows lab procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and maintaining records.
• Adheres to all lab quality control policies and documents all quality control activities.
• Understands and adheres to HIPPA regulations and requirements at all times. 
• Follows established safety standards and procedures and complies with legal regulations.
• Answers incoming phone calls and directs the calls to the appropriate staff as needed.
• Reports to work on time for all scheduled shifts and completes entire shift. 
• Performs other duties as assigned to support laboratory volume, projects and priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to the typical years of service qualifies for level as follows:

Laboratory Assistant I - 0-2 Years

Laboratory Assistant II - 3-4 Years

Laboratory Assistant III - 5+ Years

• Ability to work effectively with staff and clients. 
• Ability to establish priorities and coordinate activities of clinical staff.
• Ability to work independently and organize work to meet established deadlines.

Clinic/Group Medical Practice environment with exposure to communicable disease or body fluids. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 

HOURS/TRAVEL:

• May travel between locations occasionally as requested.  
• Typical work hours: 3rd Shift Monday – Friday 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM (May vary).
• Depending on client-specific work schedule, may include other daily hours, weekends and/or holidays.
• May need to work occasional overtime as required.
