The Avery Coonley School Summer Program is seeking an individual to serve as Lifeguard for recreational swim. Duties will be shared with another Lifeguard. Dates of our program are June 13-July 25, 2025, M-F. The hours are 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Salary is $18.00 an hour. 

Summary: Under general supervision, ensures the safety of students of the Avery Coonley School Summer Program by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Maintains constant surveillance of students in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of students in the event of an accident or emergency.
• Communicate the rules of the facility to students fairly and consistently. Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Ensures that medical services (EMS or other) are contacted by the most appropriate means when necessary to respond to an emergency.
• Presents a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.
• Completes accident/incident reports as necessary.
• Maintains a clean and safe facility as directed/assigned.
• Assists with closing and securing the facility.
• Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
• Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
• Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.

Requirements

Applicants need to be Lifeguard Certified or to be willing to get certified before June 1. Experience in swim instruction is preferred but not required. High school or college student with Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications. Prefer 6 months’ experience as a lifeguard at an aquatic facility or camp.
