Job Description - Lower Division After-School Teacher

Lower Division After-School Teacher 

About the Park School 

The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The cornerstone of Park's program is academic excellence, combining both high standards of scholarship and the encouragement of each child to develop to his or her greatest potential. Park's faculty encourages each student to strive for intellectual, physical and moral growth and to become contributing members of the community. 

The Lower Division After-School Teacher reports to the Director of After-School Operations & After-School Program Coordinator. This 10-month position comes with the responsibility of teaching in the After School Program in support of the school’s mission. The hours are 2:00-6:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 1:00-6:00 on Wednesday and 11:00-6:00 on Friday. . 

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Begin at 2:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 1:00 on Wednesday, and 11:00 on Friday 
  • Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities for ASP students in the Lower Division 
  • Guide students in their social-emotional development, maintaining expectations and support for positive and productive student behavior 
  • Actively engage and interact with ASP students 
  • Assure the safety and well-being of ASP students at all times 
  • Regularly communicate with families, colleagues, and administrators regarding student’s development at ASP

Qualifications 

High School Diploma or GED Required 

Bachelor's Degree preferred 

Experience teaching, preferably Early Childhood 

Demonstrate commitment to providing support to students and families from diverse cultures and backgrounds 

Experience integrating the use of academic technology into classroom teaching Design, organize and implement daily age appropriate activities 

Experience in classroom management 

Demonstrate flexibility in day to day schedule 

Experience communicating with parents, colleagues and administrators 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • The ability to sit and stand uninterrupted for 30-minute periods of time.
  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and accompany students to all areas of the school campus (including all indoor and outdoor areas), including during day-to-day responsibilities and in case of emergency. 
  • The ability to position oneself  (e.g.,  stand, sit, crouch, and kneel) to support students. 
  • The ability to work outdoors, year-round, in variable weather conditions.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15  lbs overhead. 
  • The ability to occasionally  transport (e.g., move or drag)  25 lbs 
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment
