Job Description - Lower School Speech-Language Pathologist

The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on East 62nd Street (Lower and Middle Schools) and East 64th Street (Upper School) in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. Browning, The Browning School has been a leader in fostering the intellectual and personal growth of boys and young men since 1888. Serving roughly 470 students in kindergarten through grade 12, Browning strives to combine the best of a traditional prep school environment and curriculum with imaginative teaching and a strong value system – all in a single-sex setting.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Browning is searching for a part-time Lower School Speech and Language Pathologist for the 2026-2027 academic year. The position will begin on or around August 27, 2026. This position is part time, encompassing 20 hours per week. The expected annual salary range for this position is $45,000-50,000, commensurate with experience. A master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences & Disorders, as well as licensure as a Speech-Language pathologist and an ASHA certificate of clinical competency are required. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The Lower School Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for supporting students in Grades K-5 who have specific learning needs in the areas of speech and language development in order to build their early communication skills and academic growth. Working with students in a small group model, the Lower School SLP will collaborate with the Student Support Team, teachers, and families to develop and work towards speech and language development goals for individual students. The Lower School SLP will provide periodic assessments and language screeners to best target each boy’s learning needs and track data in making progress towards his goals. A successful SLP will bring expertise in their field and a belief in and desire for growth of all their students. 

 

Among other things, they are tasked with:

  1. Conducting language screenings and assessments for Lower School boys in Grades K-5
  2. Providing regular and on-going individualized and/or small group speech and language instruction and support
  3. Collaborating with the Lower School Student Support Team and teachers to integrate language goals into classroom activities
  4. Tracking student progress through goal-setting and data collection
  5. Communicating with families about student needs, goals, and progress
  6. Coordinating with outside providers working with students on speech and language goals
  7. Creating strong relationships with students built on Browning’s core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose
  8. Collaborating as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the faculty
  9. Participating in professional development to grow the self, department, and school
  10. Heartily contributing to the school community
