Job Description - Machine Setup Technician - Metals/Plant 2 - 1st Shift

Lydech Thermal Acoustical Solutions (TAS) manufactures industrial thermal insulating solutions, and thermal and acoustical barriers for heat abatement and sound dampening applications.  Lydech TAS serves a number of markets with the majority of products sold to original equipment manufacturers and tier-one suppliers. The company serves customers via manufacturing operations and sales offices in North America, Europe and Asia.  Lydech TAS offers a full line of innovative engineered products to assist in noise and heat abatement within the automotive and industrial markets. The business manufactures acoustical damping and thermal insulating solutions comprised of fiber and metal based composite product constructions. These products are typically found in the interior (dash insulators), underbody (wheel well, fuel tank, exhaust) and under hood (engine compartment) of passenger vehicles, heavy duty trucks, recreational vehicles as well as in other industrial applications. The segment employs approximately ~1400 employees with operations in the U.S., Germany, France and China.

Job Summary:


The purpose of this position is to ensure the safe, timely and efficient change of tooling related components for a manufacturing production line /machine changeover. Position is expected to support production in other wide-ranging areas including but not limited to overall line set up, machine operation, and adjustments throughout the production run. 


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Ensure daily line die sets and tool changes are sufficient to meet production requirements.

  • Review schedules and requirements for each production line.

  • Communicate with prior and incoming Team Leader/Shift Manager on schedule/die set changeover status and known priorities.

  • Notify shift lead of unplanned downtime or risk of not meeting schedule/order requirements.

  • Coordinate line changes/die sets at shift start-up and changes for maximum effectiveness.

  • Change out dies and associated components as needed for line/machine changeovers.

  • Machine set-up after die change as needed.

  • Production support as needed, including but not limited to; Gripper install and adjustment, material adjustment, staging of changeover components, and machine operation.

  • Die shop support as needed, including but not limited to; transport and staging of tools to and from die shop, and cleaning of tools.

  • Maintain all areas where equipment is being maintained to 6S standards.

  • Work on other shifts for training purposes upon request.

  • Report any unsafe acts or conditions.

  • Support and maintain the world class manufacturing system (including 6S, Kaizan, waste, safety, SMED, Kanban, and mistake-proofing)

  • Must be able to work extended hours when required

  • All other duties as assigned


Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

  • High school, GED or equivalent experience.

  • Must be able to read and understand English.

  • 3 years maintenance experience

  • 1 year manufacturing experience- press experience strongly preferred

  • Hydraulic training strongly preferred

  • Crane certification strongly preferred

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen & background and reference checks

Sedentary Work:  Lifting 10 lbs. Maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as computers and small tools.  Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.  Repetitive motion of hand and finger movement to manually input data using a keyboard or to assemble parts may be required for up to eight hours a day.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.


Medium Work:  Lifting 50 lbs. Maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of object weighing up to 25 lbs.


Modified Duty:  This role can be modified to lift few/one part at a time making the lifting requirement no more than 5 lbs. routinely. 


Heavy Work:  Lifting 100 lbs. Maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of object weighing up to 50 lbs.
