Manual Machinist

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Manual Machinist is responsible for creating high-quality precision metal parts, tools and other components. This role involves operating a variety of specialized machinery, interpreting complex design specifications, and ensuring all work adhere to safety and quality standards.

Essential Functions

1. Create precision metal parts, tools, and other components using a diverse range of equipment, including lathes, milling machines ( conversational and manual), and micrometers, blasters, and grinding machines.


2. Strictly adhere to all applicable safety requirements and protocols during all operations.


3. Prepare and operate machines to grind, cut, and polish raw materials and components to exact specifications.


4. Utilize manual tools to finish projects, ensuring high-quality results and adherence to design specifications.


5. Thoroughly study design criteria, read and interpret blueprints, and analyze project specifications to determine the necessary equipment, materials, and processes for each job.


6. Develop and execute a comprehensive plan for each project, outlining the steps required to create the appropriate tools and components.


7. Continuously monitor machine operations and product output to identify and address any deviations from quality standards.


8. Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure all equipment is properly cared for.


9. Report any equipment malfunctions, material defects, or safety concerns to the supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, oil and grease. The team member occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and performs work from a variety of different angles and body positions. This noise level in the manufacturing environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, twisting, crouching, and crawling all day. The team member is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects; tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

The team member regularly lifts and moves up to 25 pounds; and frequently lifts and moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. The hours of work will be variable, and the days of work will also vary.

Travel

No travel regularly expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

1. High School Diploma or GED diploma, or three to five years related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.


2. Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in machining or a related field.


3. Solid understanding of metal properties and machining processes.

Preferred Education & Experience

1. Experience with welding is a plus.


2. Experience with conversational mill machine operation is a plus.
