Material Handler

Summary: The Material Handler plays a vital role in the efficient operation of the food bank by assisting in various tasks related to the handling, transportation, and inventory management of food items. This position will be responsible for transporting food to agency partners, receiving food from grocers and food recovery programs, and ensuring proper inventory control within the food bank. The Material Handler must be capable of lifting and carrying heavy loads and will report directly to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:

1. Transportation of Food: Safely and efficiently transport food items to agency partners, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to food safety guidelines.

2. Receiving and Sorting: Receive incoming food donations from grocers, food recovery programs, and other sources. Sort and organize food items according to food bank guidelines.

3. Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records, including tracking incoming, and outgoing food items, monitoring stock levels, and conducting regular inventory counts.

4. Storage and Organization: Properly store and organize food items within the food bank facility, utilizing designated storage areas and following food safety protocols.

5. Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment used for transportation and storage of food items, ensuring proper functioning and safety.

6. Assistance in Operations: Provide support to the Operations Manager and other team members as needed, including participating in special projects, events, or initiatives related to food distribution and community outreach.

7. Adherence to Policies and Regulations: Follow all food safety regulations, organizational policies, and procedures to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.

8. Communication: Maintain effective communication with team members, agency partners, and food donors to coordinate logistics, resolve issues, and provide updates as necessary.

Qualifications:

· Previous experience in warehouse, logistics, or similar roles preferred.

· Forklift experience preferred

· Ability to lift and carry heavy loads (40-60lbs) on a regular basis.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

· Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and data entry.

· Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (40-60lbs) on a regular basis.

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.

· Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Working Conditions: This position primarily operates in a warehouse environment, with regular exposure to refrigerated storage areas and varying temperatures. Occasional travel to agency partners or food donation sites may be required. The Material Handler must adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
