Mechatronics Lab Assistant- Part Time

Last year, Franklin Cummings Tech educated more than 1,000 learners across three student types: 1) certificate and degree seekers, 2) continuing education clients, and 3) high schoolers pursuing early college. As further evidence that our mission holds resonance, this year the college tracked a 25% year-over-year jump in fall new student enrollment and applications soared.

Position Responsibilities: 

The Mechatronics Lab Assistant position supports the engineering technology (mechatronics, renewable energy, and building energy management/automation) Laboratory infrastructure by creating course curriculum lab exercises, hands-on student supervision, and a practical learning environment for students. The role involves assisting with basic electronic design automation and solid modeling software programs, training students how to operate different prototyping equipment following safety and efficiency rules, preparing lab materials, maintaining a safe and organized lab space, and ensuring supplies are organized and readily available. This position is essential for enhancing student learning, developing technical skills, and maintaining lab operations. 

The ideal candidate will have practical experience with different prototyping systems from PCB manufacturing and assembly, operating different 3D printing and laser engraving equipment, a passion for teaching and learning, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to student success.

Education and Experience: 

• Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering B.Sc. is preferred; or currently enrolled in an engineering or engineering technology program. 
• Hands-on experience in basic Electrical and Mechanical prototyping systems and equipment. 

Skills: 

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems related to prototyping equipment. 
• Familiarity with Mechatronics lab tools and safety procedures. 

 Other Qualifications: 

• Demonstrated ability to work with students or in an educational setting. 
• Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
