Job Responsibilities:
Able to work in all areas of the Lab as follows:
General Lab Duties:
Collect specimens and process in a timely manner.
Notify proper personnel of abnormal results.
Fax reports if needed.
Separate and send proper specimens to reference lab, make sure paperwork is processed properly.
Collect and process all drug screens properly.
Check and order lab reagents.
Attend scheduled lab meetings and in-services.
Participate in quarterly AAB surveys.
Chemistry:
Perform quality control instrument checks and record tests results in logbooks.
Run chemistry assays test on Vitros Chem Analyzer.
Check reagents.
Night shift performs daily, weekly, monthly and other necessary maintenance on Vitros.
Perform quality control instrument checks and record tests results in logbook for Axsym.
Runs cardiac markers and therapeutic drugs on Axsym.
Night shift performs daily, weekly, monthly, and other maintenance on Axsym.
Hematology:
Performs required procedures related to counting, and identification of blood cells, coagulation studies as well as sedrates, and sends special tests such as sickle cell, Hgb electrophoresis reticulocyte counts to reference lab.
Performs quality control and instrument check maintenance procedures and keeps proper records.
Troubleshoots and repairs with help from call center if needed.
Records test results in log.
Blood Bank:
Performs ABO and Rh typing, antibody screening and cross matching procedures required in the administration of blood and blood components to patients.
Maintains adequate records of all procedures performed as well as blood inventory in blood bank.
Call MBS to order blood.
Performs quality control and temperature checks and inspects stored blood.
Logs results
Armband patients for cross matches with proper blood bank identification.
Serology/Immunology:
Performs immunological procedures on body fluids and records results in patient log.
Performs quality control and maintains adequate records.
Urinalysis:
Examines specimen for color and clarity.
Centrifuge urine and examines resultant sediments under a microscope to detect presence of various types of cell bodies.
Puts urine dip stick in clinitek 100 and prints patient results on urine request.
Logs results in urine patient log.
Performs QA and records results.
Performs maintenance on clienitek.
Performs occult blood on body fluids and feces.
Performs tests for OVA, cysts, and parasites in stool specimens.
Contacts/consults with appropriate personnel when test findings are abnormal and when difficulties are encountered in testing.
Requirements
Education/Licensure Requirements:
· Four-year college with proper laboratory registry; AMT, ASCP, etc.
Physical Requirements:
· Able to tolerate periods of standing and walking and high stress.
· Must be in good health.
Experience Requirements:
· Must have thorough working knowledge of general laboratory procedures.
