Job Description - Middle School Theater and Choir

Description

Rooted in our Catholic faith and inspired by the many talents of our namesake, Pope John Paul II Preparatory School prepares students to be strong in mind, body, character, and service—discovering their God-given talents and using them to serve both the local and global community. We seek a dynamic and passionate Middle School Theater and Choir Teacher to join our 6-12 grade community. This part-time, benefits-eligible position involves teaching four out of five class periods and nurturing a love of performance, music, and the arts in our middle school students.

The ideal candidate will bring both artistic vision and pedagogical expertise, fostering a creative, inclusive environment that encourages student growth in vocal performance and theatrical expression. This educator will be a collaborative team player who embraces the holistic development of students—mind, body, and spirit—and models the creativity and service-oriented mindset we encourage in all students.

We value faculty who can model the holistic approach we promote for students (e.g., directing performances, mentoring student artists, involvement in service initiatives, etc.). Our ideal candidate will desire to:

  • Inspire a passion for the performing arts, guiding students in the development of vocal technique, stage presence, and collaborative performance skills.
  • Direct middle school choral performances and musical or theatrical productions, incorporating both classroom instruction and extracurricular involvement
  • Develop age-appropriate curricula that integrates music theory, vocal performance, basic acting, and stage production in an engaging, accessible format.
  • Collaborate with fine arts and academic departments
  • Embrace our team teaching model by working closely with colleagues to align goals, share resources, and support students across all disciplines.
  • Support students in becoming confident performers, empathetic collaborators, and expressive individuals who appreciate the power of storytelling through music and drama.
  • Participate in school liturgies, performances, and community events as a visible and enthusiastic member of the arts team.
  • Engage in professional development and ongoing formation as an educator in a faith-based, mission-driven environment.

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School boasts an elite faculty who approach teaching as a vocation, putting the needs of each student first with an optimistic/growth mindset vision that meets students where they are while holding high standards for the students/people they can become. Our educational vision is not simply a seven-year one but one that seeks to create transformative experiences to prepare students for their lives and careers beyond school. We seek a candidate whose passion for the arts inspires students not only to develop technical skill, but also to grow in confidence, creativity, and character.

We welcome faculty, students, and families of diverse faiths and backgrounds at Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School. We encourage all interested candidates to apply for the position by uploading the following supporting documents. If you have questions, please email Jennifer Dye, Principal ([email protected]):

  • A cover letter that includes but is not limited to the following:
    • Your interest in our 6–12 grade community
    • Your desire to teach in a faith-based school
    • Your contributions outside of the classroom
    • Your passions that make you unique
  • A resume that emphasizes educational and professional experiences
  • A statement of teaching philosophy
