About the Port Angeles Food Bank



The Port Angeles Food Bank was founded in 1975 to address a growing need for emergency and supplemental food to those experiencing food insecurity in Clallam County. Our programs offer community members the healthy, culturally familiar options they need. Our grocery store-styled free pantry enables customers to shop for the foods they want in a comfortable and stigma-free setting. 



The Port Angeles Food Bank is the lead emergency food provider in Clallam County, and currently provides food to over 4300 households, supports 13 area food pantries, several unofficial partner agencies, and 700 students in the Port Angeles and surrounding School Districts.



The Mobile Market: 


A welcoming mobile market that serves 10 locations weekly, along with 2 monthly stops. The Mobile Market is an extension of The Market, which brings fresh produce from local farms, meat, milk, and eggs from local suppliers, as well as shelf-stable pantry foods out into the communities where people live and work. There will also be household goods, pet food, personal care, and hygiene items as available. Shop for a few days’ worth of food and visit up to twice per week.  


 


Position Summary: 


The Mobile Market Associate will work as part of a team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. The Mobile Market Associate will help maintain a safe and welcoming Mobile Market experience for our customers and volunteers. While the Mobile Market Associate will primarily work in the Mobile Market, their role will connect them to and occasionally require them to support our other programs including grocery rescue, home delivery, satellite pantries, and Friday Food Bags our weekend backpack program for students. This is a grant-funded position.


 


Responsibilities and Work Tasks 


To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform these duties to a reasonable level. 


Greet and direct customers waiting to shop in the market in a clear and friendly manner 



  • Promote a welcoming, safe, nonjudgmental shopping environment 



  • Assist in supervising and delegating tasks to volunteers 



  • Create and maintain a well-stocked Mobile Market 



  • Use intake software to record shopping visits 



  • Support customer shopping and answer customer questions 



  • Bag groceries 



  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers on new or existing Market-related programs 



  • Support Grocery Rescue and Delivery programs where necessary 



  • Receive and record community food donations 



  • Sort community food donations 



  • Move food safely throughout our space using warehouse equipment (pallet jacks, carts, hand trucks) 



  • Understand and promote safe food handling practices 



  • De-escalate customer and community conflict in and around our space 



  • Work with colleagues to identify and resolve pantry needs for food and volunteers 



  • Maintain a clean, well-ordered Mobile Market



  • Participate in staff meetings 


Qualifications 


 



  • Valid WA-State Driver’s License with 5 years of driving experience

  • A clean driving record  



  • Ability to follow safe food handling procedures at all time 



  • Ability to stay positive, calm, and focused in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment 



  • Alignment with Port Angeles Food Banks mission, vision, and values 



  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of job, including lifting (40 pounds), exposure to cold and freezing temperatures, stooping, kneeling, and standing for prolonged periods of time 



  • Must be able to work up to two Saturdays month to support Mobile Market stops in Joyce and further West. 



  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing 



  • Must be comfortable using a computer and different types of software 



  • Desire to work with a diverse community 



  • Commitment to practicing anti-racist and culturally competent behaviors and willingness to support volunteers and other staff in this effort as well. 


 


Preferred 



  • Bilingual or multilingual
